Availability
I'm currently splitting my time between the New Hampshire Seacoast and Pittsburgh (PA) region. As a full-time freelance writer, editor and journalist, I work mostly from "home," so my schedule is very much my own. Or, my schedule can easily adapt to your pet's routines, as the case may be! The more exercise they need, the better for me — I especially love walking with dogs. But if they're older and more mellow, just having the company while I work or taking snuggle breaks is wonderful, too.

Safety, trust & environment
In May 2024, I gave up my housing to live and work as a digital nomad. The travel is amazing, but satisfying my wanderlust makes it hard for me to have pets of my own, so it's a joy to look after pets when I can. And since I don't have a home of my own to look after, yours will get my full attention while I'm there.
Information Hilary N. would like to know about your pet
It's so helpful to know your animal's preferences — from how they like their food to how they like to engage. I'm happy to accommodate any special needs.
A typical day
Mainly, I let your pets tell me what they like! Charlie in Olympia loved zoomies after we came home from a nice walk. (He also liked rolling in goose poop at the park by the Puget Sound, which is the one activity I discouraged.) A different Charlie and his sister Dandelion could have played fetch with sticks all day, so even on cold, rainy days we'd be out in the yard seeing who was fastest. (There was no guessing, actually. Dandy beat him every time.) A kitty name Miroes liked playing hide & seek in her cat carrier ... If they like it, I'll do it! Except the goose poop.

Animal lover with wanderlust!
Pet care experience
I love cats and all dog breeds, from chihuahuas to rottweilers. I've also cared for chickens, goats, sheep and horses over the years ... and I once negotiated my way out of a feeding pen when a bull showed up who wasn't supposed to be there! In addition to lavishing your animals with attentiveness and affection, my farming and gardening experience will leave your plants and yard in great hands. Plus, I'm comfortable with basic tools to make sure your home is looked after, too. BTW I'm new to Rover, but can put you in touch with plenty of references and provide a link to testimonials on other websites. :)

Reviews

Hilary was fantastic!!She took such great care of our dogs,1 male Labrador almost 2 years old and 1 female lab 9 months old. So you can see she had some energetic young dogs! Hilary spent time with them inside & out. She kept in contact with us, sent pictures. The house was clean, the dogs shampooed, I think the dogs were sorry to see her go! We would definitely get Hilary again!!!

Hilary, thank you for adopting our pets as your own while we were away for two weeks! We missed our many pets, but were so grateful to know you were thoughtfully and lovingly caring for our motley crew of fur babies (as well as some fish and house plants). The peace of mind was a true gift, and we appreciate you so much!
Hilary took care of Charlie, our geriatric bichon mix who still thinks he’s a puppy, for a month in 2024. Hilary was fantastic. She asked great questions before the hand-off and provided regular updates throughout. If she observed something that didn’t seem right, she would let us know and ask about it. We think Charlie probably preferred her to us because of all the extra attention he got. We wholeheartedly recommend Hilary for your pet-sitting needs.
Hilary is a thoughtful kind soul and one of the most responsible people I know. She is trustworthy and reliable and a great care taker. If I needed a dog/cat/house - sitter, I would be thrilled if Hilary was available. I highly recommend Hilary!
