Caring for your dogs as you would!

Pet care experience

Gretchen started The Grateful Dog as a part time side hustle and it has quickly developed into a full time passion! She has been a dog mom for 16 years, from rescued greyhounds fresh off the track, to adopted pit bulls. My experience gives me confidence and comfortability with all sizes and breeds and temperaments. I am both energetic and love to walk - fast or slow - and am very passionate about playing and throwing and swimming, and we would love to get your furbabies out there and in the fresh air. I have had personal experience with dog walkers that cut corners on time or distance, and know what that feels like - to pay and expect a certain level of service that isn't delivered. We promise not to repeat some of the same experiences I have had. Gretchen grew up in Barrington and love living near the water, and would love the opportunity to walk or sit your dogs and be part of their lives! I am committed to my dog walking/boarding business and are caring for pets full time. That said, I have a very flexible schedule and can accommodate almost any time or day if it makes your like easier and gives you peace of mind that your dogs are being cared for just as you would take care of them. I always base my care on your requests and most importantly your dogs needs. We are both committed to our dog walking/boarding business and are caring for pets full time. That said, we both have a very flexible schedule and can accommodate almost any time or day if it makes your like easier and gives you peace of mind that your dogs are being cared for just as you would take care of them. We have over an acre of water front yard in Warren, including a marsh, estuary, docks, and a small private beach. Oh - and our yard abuts the East Bay Bike Path! So depending on each dog and their style, training and comfort level we can utilize those options OR just take a nice leash walk too. Our house is dog friendly and while we have crates to use - freedom to roam is also okay here. We always base my care on your requests and most importantly your dogs needs.

We asked Gretchen if she was free to walk and feed our dog on a Friday night. When she said she was, we booked a walk and confirmed payment. From all we could tell, she never came and has not responded to two of my messages on Rover since. I will not use her again.

My yellow lab Roger came home happy, healthy and tired from lots of play. Highly recommended!

Gretchen watched over our young dog while we were away for 2 weeks. The meet and greet was a success and dropoff at the beginning of his stay went very smoothly. She has a beautiful location by the water with a large area for dogs to run, and took our dog on walks to nearby parks, and had clean and comfortable accommodations in her home. However, it seems that our dog and Gretchen could have gotten along better. Seems that some of his puppy/young dog habits bothered her, and only found out about it his upon pickup after his 2 week stay. I believe his several accidents in the house caused some Ill will towards myself with some delayed/unanswered questions, and retrieving a missing item proved difficult after our dog’s stay was completed. Would recommend that future dog owners be upfront about any normal or expected behaviors that their pup could exhibit while under watch, and more routine updates throughout the day are always a plus.

I would prefer to watch your dogs in their home environment. I think it can be stressful to have a dog board, especially at a new location and for short amounts of time.

Information Gretchen W. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know how your dog is special and how we can best assist them - whether that is with medication (oral or injected - Gretchen is a type one diabetic!), or one on one walks...we have had dogs with complicated health concerns, senior dogs, energetic dogs, dogs that are better alone and dogs that crave packs and chaos. Noah and Gretchen are here to customize your dog care to your pets' needs!

A typical day

We are local Rhode Islanders and LOVE the water, so we would love to share and explore our little private beach and other nearby beaches with your dog as well as the Lincoln Woods trails and even a power walk on Blackstone Boulevard to people watch! We have even taken our Rover Clients to Newport Polo! Rhode Island has so much to offer that we love sharing as much as possible with our Rover clients!
