Pet care experience
I aim to make the world bigger and better for every animal I care for. Regardless of age or animal, I can find a way to connect (or respectfully observe) with yours in a way that promotes your pets' confidence! I have been taking care of animals professionally for ten years. I have a background in rescue and had been a colony caretaker for a feral cat colony outside of my old apartment. I volunteered regularly with St. Francis Animal Sanctuary for six years working with dogs and puppies to work on basic manners and obedience training, and finding their forever homes. With this experience I have learned a lot about dog training and meeting dogs where they are at. I love learning new things about dogs and how to care for them better, so I am constantly working on my knowledge base. I did work briefly with kittens while I was there, but my best teachers have been my two cats, the two cats I've fostered, and the colony I cared for. I am frequently learning and enriching their lives. My two kitties are leash trained and know several commands, and I love being able to give them a loved life. I currently have two cats of my own named Remy and Mochi, a dog named Sushi, and a unnamed (yet!) betta fish. I truly love animals of all kinds and would love to meet yours! I have had fish my whole life and have experience with their care. I also have experience with caring for reptiles (specifically bearded dragons). I also have some knowledge on caring for cattle/farm animals (my greatest depth of knowledge is on chickens!). I am open to learning from you as well and I love making new animal friends. I also loooove discussing pet care. Continuously learning has been my favorite part of having animals. I love that people keep discovering new things on how to make our friends have happier lives, what a wonderful world we are in! I use my research to help make your pets' world's bigger in their own ways. I am currently learning about service dog training, scent work, natural as possible enrichment, ethical rescue and breeding, and balanced training methods. Personally, my dog Sushi has been one of my best teachers. She only responds well to positive reinforcement and a lot of popular training stuff utilizes aversive methods.

Emma is amazing with our animals!!!

Emma was amazing as always! We feel so fortunate to count on her to care for our dog and cat sitting needs while we are away! She always goes above and beyond :)

Emma took exceptional care of both the furry kids and our home. She sent lots of pictures and updates and generally kept us well informed. She went above and beyond with our dog and tolerated our "clingy" cat with love. We look forward to future house/pet sitting engagements!!

Emma was great! Communication - She sent photos throughout her stay & shared updates on their activities.

Safety, trust & environment
I care for pets with enthusiasm and knowledge, but also safety in mind. I work on building relationships with the animals I watch and establish myself as a positive neutral presence through positive reinforcement. When working with animals who I have a relationship with, I try to work on physical safety behaviors such as stopping and sitting off the road when cars pass. I also encourage dogs to not jump at the door and sitting and waiting to be released when opening doors. With cats, I go completely at their speed and how much they would like to engage. I will always try my best to win them over but respecting their space is important for building a good relationship with your cat. I also carry a water bowl with me for walks, and carry Quick Stop powder in case of emergency to control bleeding if needed.
Information Emma S. would like to know about your pet
I would definitely need to know about the animals' medications (eye drops, pills, ear drops etc), daily routine, things your pet(s) do not like/enjoy, their feeding schedule, their health conditions/history (does your pet have an easily upsettable tummy or hip dysplasia?), and what does your pet(s) enjoy (belly rubs, favorite toys, favorite place to walk/sniff to their heart's content)! I also need to know veterinary information in case of an unlikely emergency.
A typical day
I love to play engaging games with the animals I watch. This can look like playing tug, fetch, finding food/treats, training reinforcement, training new tricks, using a flirt pole, or even setting up puzzles or lick mats. Typically, I like to take dogs who like walks around their own neighborhood. But for those who enjoy new sights and smells and like car rides, I am definitely open to going to a safe local park near your house for a walk. I try to work on cooperative care with willing animals as well. For example, I often work on creating positive associations with grooming behaviors such as being asked to stand still, and to tolerate their fur/hair being messed with and being handled all over their bodies. I have experience with walking cats & supervising their time outside as well to make it as enjoyable as possible, too. I have leash trained two of my cats and love taking them for walks and sniffs too. I am also totally rocking with pet strollers if that's how your pals get around outside, too! Throughout the day I try to incorporate learning and confidence building strategies through not only structured training but in how I interact with your animals. I am a huge believer that we are always training and I want to ensure your pets are not just taken care of, but enriched. I aim to make things exciting even for older pets, and can proudly say I've taught some old dogs new tricks!

Availability
I just finished my graduate degree at LSU and am studying for my licensure exam. For now, I am focusing on my petsitting business and will be available in Baton Rouge until October 2026. I do lunch drop ins during the week and have had lots of happy dogs seen. I currently cannot accommodate animals that cannot be left alone for more than 4 hours during the daytime. For those specifically requesting sleeping at your residence to watch your animals, I stay there overnight if possible. Pet care is a daily part of life for me as I have two cats, a betta fish, and a dog, and making intentional time for it is important to me. I will make sure your babies get the best care possible and individual attention each day/visit through loving on them by playing, doing enriching activities, and often some obedience work (if you have treats)! I do flexible drop ins throughout the week! Do you need someone to help give your pets complex medications, or someone to go tend to your senior dog? Do you need someone to come bathe and trim your pup or someone to feed your exotic pets or farm animals? I would love to help!
