I live on a boat so I don't have a garden and it has taken my own dog a long time to be comfortable hanging out on the tow path with so many people, dogs, bikes and scooters going past. She has come a long way but this can still be a challenge for her and it's only appropriate for me to board dogs that she already has a solid relationship with and that I am confident also can handle exposure to the traffic of the tow path. So I wouldn't be offering boarding to anyone on this app straight away. However I am very happy to do dog walking and home visits. Caring for my own dog involves lots of food based games to teach concepts such as confidence, optimism, proximity, disengagement from distraction and calmness. She also gets adequate chill out time as well as enrichment activities such as bones, food foraging, puzzles and parcels to tear open. We play tug and ball games on walks and we also do scent work. I would happily do any of these activities with your dog depending on what you think would be appropriate for them. As previously mentioned I am also more than happy to follow whatever protocols you have in place. However the one thing I will not do is inflict physical punishment on a dog. I understand why some people think its necessary because many dogs (my own included) are very stubborn and contrary so no judgement if that is what works for you but I wouldn't be comfortable doing that but have yet to find a dog the games method didn't produce effective results with. If we are away from roads I walk my own dog and trusted dogs I look after off lead but at first I walk all dogs on lead until I'm 100% confident and the owner asks for off lead walking. If a dog needs more freedom I find extension leads and long leads very useful. Scent training can also be more tiring for dogs than walks because it uses a lot of brain power. I don't bring my own dog for Rover walks or home visits unless it is previously arranged with the owner and the dogs have already been introduced with the owner present. My dog does love to play with a lot of dogs, the sighthound in her loves a run and a gentle play fight but she can get intimidated by some dogs and equally she can be too much for others because she likes to growl and bark when she plays but having said that she is good at reading the doggy signals. So, play dates could be a potential option for some dogs but this would require prior introductions. For home visits, if you want me to enter without anyone present, I would need to be introduced to you and your dog in the home we would need to practice this on our first meeting so the guardy types understand I'm not a burglar!:)

Pet care experience

I have experience looking after a variety of different dogs and taylor my approach to each dog as an individual. My own dog (a street dog - lurcher cross) took me through just about every training method imaginable as she was naturally very prey/chase driven, neurotic and uninterested in food. Many times I felt I was trying to train a cat. But since finding science supported games based methods I have not only seen a huge transformation in her behaviour but also the other dogs I have looked after with varying levels of reactivity I have always given back a little less reactive than they came. I'm happy to share all the games with you as well as there are some its better the owner does but there are many an outsider can do to boost calmness and optimism that don't compete with the owners relationship with their dog and in fact help to enhance it!:) All the games and methods I use are positive reinforcement based. To be clear, if your dog is already happy and well adjusted then it will be a joy to take them for a walk and not interfere with your training methods! All that stuff about the games is just to say if your dog has any particular struggles then I am confident I have to tools to help them with that if thats something you'd be interested in!:) I also will of course follow any procedures and protocols you have in place for your dog already!:) I have looked after a litter of puppies (5-6 weeks) and nursing mum, to one as old as 14, so comfortable with a variety of ages, and a wide variety of breeds also. I'm patient, attentive and non judgemental! I look forward to hearing from you!:)

Emily is absolutely brilliant! She is reliable, brilliant with the dogs and just a really lovely lady! My doggy’s Gucci and frank absolutely loved spending time with her, they are my world and to know they are safe and having fun with Emily has made my working days very relaxed.

Emily saved the day for us a day before we were leaving on holiday when a previous sitter let us down. She was instantly super kind and a genuinely nice person. She looked after our cat Bennie and sent wonderful updates daily with lots of pictures which completely put us at ease whilst being away. Thank you so much Emily - we look forward to seeing you again x
