Pet care experience
I volunteer at my local animal shelter and I am great with both dogs and cats. I grew up with my cat, Hepsiba, born before me who died when I was nearly 20 years of age. We were best friends before I knew what that was. Then at the age of 12 or so, my parents adopted 2 English cocker spaniels, brother and sister. Robbie and Flora. So I was taking care of three pets. Then I raised Bruce, a rescued black lab mix from August 2013 until 2025 with some breaks for the US Army. And I taught him very well; he passed in June 2025 but he will always be my companion at my side. For some time I carried him, 120 lbs, up and down flights of stairs. Sometimes from here to there, carefully, comfortably, gingerly. I’ve taken care of pets for family members and friends. And did so professionally in the past prior to Rover, after friends got me into it. I’m great with animals. After spending even just a short time with them we can often establish a connection or rapport, especially when training a younger pet (or caring for an older dog). I enjoy taking dogs for long walks, I could run with your dog, play with them, but mostly we’ll be doing what they want - within reason.

Reviews
Amazing with dogs and will take amazing care of any age and health condition. Always joyful and playful with our dogs making sure they get plenty of exercise.
I have had the joy of experiencing Duncan’s unconditional love and the unrelenting care he provided for his dog Bruce. When Bruce’s health declined Duncan provided steadfast, persistent, and unwavering support, even carrying the 120lb pup outside to use the bathroom. Duncan has a relaxed aura about him and is able to make any animal feel comfortable and at ease. He’s genuinely a cool human and volunteers his time weekly at the local animal shelter. He is respectful, responsible, kind, and communicates clearly and consistently. I can’t recommend a better human to care for your animals.
I have known Duncan almost my entire life and have always known him to be a responsible and loving caretaker of animals. He volunteers at the local animal shelter in his spare time. When we were younger, I would often visit his home which was always a treat, as I would get to spend time with his dog and cat, both of which were friendly, well behaved, and exceptionally well cared for. More recently, he was a devoted pet parent to his dog, Bruce, who was the light of his life. When he spent time at my house, I was surprised that my own cats gravitated to him, as they were often shy. I am convinced that his experience with his own animals and the natural magnetism that other pets show towards him would make him an excellent caretaker for any pet.
Duncan has been absolutely wonderful with our dog. He really matches his energy level and takes the time to make sure he’s comfortable and happy. Our pup enjoys Duncan’s company and looks forward to their time together. Duncan is reliable, and genuinely cares about the dogs he works with. I feel at ease knowing our pup is in such good hands. Highly recommend!

Generally, boarding an animal at my own home is a much bigger ask, if it’s to be overnight. But then it’s fairly simple. Massasoit State Park is half a mile from my house and offers a great destination - all the dogs I’ve taken care of and brought there have loved it. At a home that the pet is used to is really a non-issue, (it helps if the owner is there when I meet the companion in question). Overnight and for extended lengths, though - it would only be a matter of making sure I’d have what I’d need for the length of time, so I would need just a little prep time.

Tell me everything. Established medical or nutritional needs? Concerns that you have about something that’s going on that you want me to be on the lookout for is the type of thing that I want to know as well. This will enable me to provide you with informational updates about your pet.
A typical day
Some of them loved to be talked to. Some of them sat with. Some want you to dance around the room with them or be chased. And for some of them, going for a walk and smelling things is like exercise and reading a book at the same time. Together with you and your pets, we’ll figure out what they want to do and what’s probably best. I’ve played fetch with cats.

Availability
If it could be all I did, all the time - I think that I would like that just fine. I’ll need a heads up at first to secure prep, but after that I could spend virtually all of my time with your companions - needing only to stop momentarily for supplies.
