Just wow - this couple provided so much love to our Boo. We had a drop off visit due to a bit of a pickle to find a sitter quickly, due to a cancellation and they provided assistance right away -which was truly appreciated. Their love of fur babies is really evident with toys and treats and lots of love. We highly recommend their care❤️

We are beyond thrilled with the exceptional care our dog, Louis, received from Deb and Marron. From the very first interaction, their communication was outstanding—always prompt, clear, and incredibly thoughtful. They went above and beyond in terms of flexibility and attention to detail, which made us feel completely at ease leaving our boy in their care. It was so evident from the photos and updates that he was not just being looked after, but genuinely adored and doted on. They took him to the Santa Claus parade, had holiday photo shoots, and filled his days with so much fun, love, and big walks. He clearly was happy and we felt completely comfortable and trusting in their care. We have never experienced such personal, warm, and exceptional service from a dog-sitting duo. It’s clear that they do this for the pure love of dogs, and their kindness and professionalism shines through in every aspect of care within their lovely family home. Thank you for giving Louis such a memorable, safe, and joyful experience—we couldn’t recommend you both more highly!

Deb and Marron took great care of our dog, Cooper, while we took a mini-vacation. Cooper is an older Golden so he has his routines and we were concerned about introducing something new to him. Deb and Marron went out of there way to make Cooper comfortable and enjoy his stay. We got regular updates which allowed us to relax and not worry. We would not hesitate to recommend Deb and Marron and look forward to having them look after Cooper on our next trip.

Oh my goodness, we are thrilled we found Deb and Marron. From the moment I dropped Maggie off I knew they were the perfect match for Maggie. I was delighted to receive pictures and updates throughout the day. Lots of love, exercise and cuddles. Thank you!

When we travel, we always bring our Pomeranian Misha with us. We always search for dog friendly accommodations and we never leave him behind. This time we had to take a boat cruise and visit Singer castle and Boldt castle, both having a “no dogs” policy. We were not comfortable leaving our Misha to anyone else, since at home and in our backyard he is quite a guardian dog. He often barks at and chases other dogs, people and big vehicles, trying to enforce his “You shall not pass” rule. So we were hesitant… Deb and James though got his attention from the beginning. They were nice and calm, Misha liked them and bonded with them immediately. They reported to us frequently with messages and photos showing Misha calm and relaxed. Deb and James strictly followed our instructions, which apparently we didn’t have to give. One could say right away that they have big experience with dogs and know everything that is needed to be done or respected. They have a big cool house and fully fenced backyard so the dog was safe all the time. If you search for dog sitters in Thousand Islands area - search no more. Deb and James would be your best option. We are happy that we met them and if we have to come back to the area - we’ll ask them again. Thank you Deb and James!

Schedule

Let’s start with the GOOD stuff: • We are a mature couple with many years of experience owning and loving dogs as our family members. In our home, dogs are regarded as nothing less than a shade below royalty. We love them more than some people, truth be told • We have a good-sized fenced yard for your dog and we also like be outside. We go for walks every day and often on longer hikes on the weekends. Your dog will have daily exercise geared to their age and needs. • We live less than 5 minutes from a lovely walking trail. Ugly disclaimer: We typically do sidewalk walking for much of the year to reduce the possibility of picking up ticks in the woods. If it’s winter time, hiking and walking IN the woods are a “go” for us and your treasured pup too • We know stuff about dogs and dog behaviour. We aren’t trainers or vets but my husband has owned several large breed dogs in his lifetime and I have had several medium sized dogs myself over the past 45 years. We also take care of dogs for friends on a fairly regular basis. As such, we are pretty comfortable with any things your pet might need. Are they on a special diet? We’re ON it! Do they have to be given medication? We have it covered. Do they have lots of play time? HECK YES. We expect dogs to bark to communicate. We anticipate they might want to sit on the couch to look out the window. We’re cool – we have it covered • We are good communicators most of the time and are happy to send you updates/ progress reports. We will rely on you to let us know if that is something you'd find helpful or not. If you are a little nervous about leaving your pet we'll update you as you prefer. Likewise, we are also really good at reassuring, snuggling with, entertaining and distracting “Rover” if he is a bit sad when you leave. We’ve got this! • People actually pay us to take photographs sometimes. That being said, it means we will send you a photograph or two so you know that your sweetie is safe and happy while you are away. Who knows-- it might even be a framer! • If you tell us that its okay, your dog will go virtually everywhere we go. Car rides? –Yes. For a walk to the pub and a visit with some locals if they enjoy meeting people with? YES! The Santa Claus Parade- Of course! • We are a non-smoking home • We have no pets of our own at the moment meaning we have undivided attention to share with your dog. Our hearts have not quite mended from losing our last loves—Sydnee, over ten years ago and Milly, quite recently. • We adore kids (almost always) but our kids are all adults and live on their own. Again – this translates into undivided attention for your dog.

Safety, trust & environment

The Bad • My husband is incorrigible about being perfectly comfortable with dogs jumping up on him and will never say “no” to a four-legged friend. I will redirect and attempt to ensure your normal rules of acceptable behaviour are followed but I cannot guarantee my husband will be so “hard nosed.” 😊 • We have been known to give the occasional treat (but NEVER from the table). We would obviously check on what is acceptable for your dog because it absolutely about safety and their health first. • Yes. Dogs do sit on our couches, chairs, anywhere they darn well like in our house. We have to draw the line at them sleeping in our bed though – it’s a space issue! *Last, but not least, one of us has a back issue and the other, a shoulder problem. This means that any dogs who pull significantly on their leash are quite difficult for us to walk properly. If your dog doesn't do reasonably well on a leash (especially if they are larger or stronger), we may not be the best fit for them.* *We have and inground swimming pool in our backyard that has a ladder, no stairs. If your dog loves water and is known to jump in, we are probably not your best fit. Even though we are outdoors with dogs when they are with us, the lack of stairs makes it worrisome for your pet's safety.

A typical day

Walks! Outdoor play time....Indoor play time ....Hikes in the woods...Visits with friends if your dog enjoys people....Snuggling time (if they like this!) Generally chatting together, possibly singing a song or two and most importantly, enjoying one another's company.

We would appreciate knowing your dog's normal routine so we can provide care that is as close to their regular day at home as possible. We want them to be relaxed and happy with a stress free stay with us. We'd like to know what time they usually eat and what kinds of extras they can be given (if anything.) Are they on medications? What are their favourite things to do and are there things they don't like? Small details like these and others are often the most important ones to us so that we can provide the most loving and happy stay for your pup.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
