Pet care experience

Nothing better than “dog days!”

I have worked as a part time dog walker for the past 3 and a half years on Rover, and other similar apps. I’ve owned dogs and cats (and more!) all my life, and I just love them to death…in a good way! I am an assistance/service dog trainer and I am currently working towards my CPDT. I look for every opportunity to learn from dogs and practice some of my skills. I am unable to care for pets in my home as I am currently living at home with my family pets. During sittings, I always make sure to keep to their routines, as I know how important these are for pets to feel comfortable. I am loving and will spend lots of time paying attention to them, walking them or playing with them at the house. I have experience with long overnight sittings as well as just drop ins, and just under a year of experience working with a variety of dogs (ages, breeds, sizes, temperaments, and needs) in a dog daycare setting. I have a strong understanding of their needs and behaviors, and a lot of love to make sure they are getting everything they need. For services further than 10 miles, I do request a flat $15 meet and greet fee if you are able to do so, which could easily be added as a tip at the end of the sit. This helps me cover some gas and travel time —I very much appreciate it!

Pets

Safety, trust & environment

My key to building trust with the pets in their homes is patience and kindness. I won’t ever rush a pet to feel comfortable with me around, but instead I stick to their routines, care for them, let them know that they can trust me to be in charge, and really give them the space. 99% of the time, this approach forms a strong bond with the pets that I walk and/or sit. Kindness is the other key, as it is part of how you build that trust. I really genuinely love the pets and treat them with respect and care.

Ava is so great, and Maverick loves her visits! She leaves the house looking exactly as we left it and is sure to update us multiple times per day. She is incredibly flexible and a great communicator.

Ava was so great to work with - from our meet & greet to our return home when Buddy went over to say his goodbyes to her as she was leaving (he doesn't normally do that!). :-) Ava was SO good about helping us/Buddy to stick with his everyday routines and habits (the walks, ALL the smells, the meals, the snacks, the playtime, etc.). I got multiple updates throughout the day - with great pics! I was comfortable being away from my Buddy knowing Ava was there taking such great care of him! I definitely recommend Ava to care for your Pup and your home while you're away!

Ava was a fantastic dog sitter for our dog! She was incredibly attentive to his needs, making sure he was comfortable and happy throughout his stay. We really appreciated her commitment to walking him as promised and the regular updates she sent with photos. We felt completely at ease knowing he was in such caring hands. We highly recommend Ava and will definitely be booking with her again!

Ava was so great with our dog and very flexible when a few changes to our schedule came up. She was so thoughtful in maintaining the dog’s regular routines, and this helped to manage his separation anxiety. He got plenty of exercise and snuggles, and can’t wait for her to come again! We loved the daily updates and photos. Ava was also very respectful of our home and left everything in perfect order.

Schedule

My main priority is their schedules! I am working full time, so may need to be out of the house for up to 8 hours during the weekdays, but I much prefer that their routines are as unchanged as possible if I can make that work. I am upfront about my schedule so that you know, too, what kind of care your pet is going to get from me.

Cats
0 to 15 lbs
16 to 40 lbs
41 to 100 lbs
over 101 lbs
Ava can host up to 3 drop-ins per day
It is good to know if they are reactive at all to their surroundings so I know what to be aware of, and how to manage the environment to limit their stressors.
