Hi, I’m Ashleigh – a qualified animal enthusiast with over 8 years of experience studying and caring for animals. My passion and empathy for animals have always been a part of who I am, and from a very young age, I knew I wanted to pursue a career working with them. After leaving school, I went to college to study animals, which eventually led me to earn a BSc in Animal Behaviour & Welfare. Along the way, I’ve gained hands-on experience working and volunteering in rescue centres, daycares, zoos, aquariums, and wildlife rehabilitation. This has provided me with the amazing opportunity to work with a wide range of species – from dogs, cats, and rabbits to snakes, penguins, armadillos, octopuses, and rhinos! After a short break from studying, I’ll soon be starting an MRes in Animal Behaviour & Welfare, and my research will be centred around reptile cognition. I am committed to building on my understanding of how and why animals think and behave the way they do. Understanding an animals behaviour isn’t just fascinating – it’s essential to providing the best possible care and building trust-based relationships. Driven by my knowledge and lifelong passion for animals, I began offering my own services some time ago to just a few clients alongside my work and studies. I’ve now decided to take the next step and officially launch Tails & Scales Pet Care – providing trustworthy, personalised care for pets of all shapes and sizes. Services I provide: 🐕🦺 Solo dog walk – dedicated one-on-one time tailored to your dog’s needs 🐇 Pet sitting – in-home care while you’re away, keeping your pets comfortable in their own space 🐈 Drop-in visits – check-ins for feeding, playtime, company, and a toilet break 🐢 Experienced care for scaly, slimy, feathery, and creepy-crawly pets Whether you need regular walks, a one-off pet sit, or the occasional drop-in visit, I’m here to make life easier for you and more comfortable for your animals. Every pet I care for is treated like one of my own – no matter their shape, size, or quirks.

I only offer 1-2-1 care, or care for pets from the same household for safety reasons, and to ensure every animal in my care is getting the necessary attention and devotion! Happy to follow safe and sensible owner instruction regarding care and routine for your animal/s in your own home.
Ratings and reviews
Ashleigh was a great dog sitter and chicken sitter. We could not recommend her more. Our dog Fergie is nervous of new people, and Ashleigh was very patient and attentive to Fergie's needs, prioritising extra meet and greets before the sit to get to know him. During the sit it looked like Fergie had found a new best mate in Ashleigh. The photos she sent showed Fergie adored Ashleigh. Ashleigh was very communicative and always kept us up to date and really took special care of Fergie who is not an easy dog. Ashleigh also looked after our chickens during her stay. We highly recommend Ashleigh and have already booked her for two additional sits with Fergie!
Ashleigh was absolutely lovely!!! She took such wonderful care of Humphrey while we were away for the weekend. She was attentive to his need and how we like to spend our time away from him. Ashleigh was also a great guest in house, leaving it nice and tidy. 😊
Ashleigh took such great care of Archie in our home, she regularly sent us pictures to let us know how he was doing, and left our house very tidy when she left. Will definitely be booking Ashleigh again the next time we need someone to take care of Archie!
Not only is she reliable and trustworthy, she is always accommodating to my ever changing schedule. Boris absolutely adores Leigh and Leigh always keeps me updated on their walks together by sending pictures. I can honestly say that Leigh is hands down, an absolutely fantastic dog walker and also takes great care of my reptiles whilst I’m at work too (bearded dragon and Corn Snakes) with feeding and handling. She even taught me some things about them and I’ve kept reptiles for over 20 years!
Leigh is a gem! She kept us updated with messages and photos, which gave us peace of mind while we were away. Our dogs were very happy, well exercised, and clearly well cared for. We couldn't have asked for a better petsitter and will absolutely trust Leigh again. Highly recommended!
Ashleigh's a highly conscientious young woman who's an attentive and loving dog owner herself, more than capable of handling an energetic pet. She's cared for my feisty westie over many weekends and I've always come back to find him content and oblivious to my return. She also comes with experience in conservation and nurturing other animals of all stripes.
