Pet care experience
I've had dogs my whole life, but really fell in love with them once I got my own as an adult. I've rescued & rehabilitated adult dogs, and brought up purebred pups from 7 weeks old. I've done therapy dog training, potty training, crate training, leash & command training with all sorts. Raising vs. rehabilitating are very different kinds of relationships! But both are so rewarding in their own way. Dogs are like kids in that they are always listening and learning. It's easy to teach them attentiveness and basic commands as long as you have patience and attentiveness of your own - also, like with kids, it helps to NOT be their parent, haha. I'm fully familiar/comfortable with all kinds of medical issues and medication administration, both from my own dogs and from sitting for a friend's dog who had a lot of joint problems & surgeries. I've cared for dogs as small as 7lbs and as large as 110+lbs. I do have a soft spot for the big'uns. :)

Took great care of our puppy while we were away! Could certainly airline either her again!

Amy took amazing care of my babies and sent lots of great photos that put my heart at ease while we were away. I know my pups are in great hands with her.

Amy is so sweet, and Meeko came back very happy and relaxed. I will absolutely be using Amy’s services again (Meeko approved!)

Amy is a wonderful person and a true dog lover. We have a somewhat stubborn chow chow mix and Amy was great with her. Deft recommend

I have a large, 3-bedroom house, and the yard is fenced, but it is very small and *entirely* filled with landscaping, so there isn't really room for a dog to run (which is why I checked "no yard"), but we live 2 blocks from a big park and only another few blocks to the Greenway. I spend a lot of time with my sister & her kids, who LOVE dogs, and they have a huge, fenced yard. I also have a network of dog-friends for doggy play dates at parks and backyards, so there are lots of options for enrichment, but no unavoidable interactions with kids or other pets.

Information Amy P. would like to know about your pet
I'm comfortable with most styles of training, and am happy to do medication administration, PT, other special needs things. We may need to negotiate on the fee for more intense requirements, but as long as we communicate on your pet's needs, I'm sure we'll be able to work it out.
A typical day
A typical day with me depends on the dog. Because I do this work full-time, I have the luxury of letting the dog's needs & personality lead. Big energy dogs are big fun! Long walks or dog park play for the larger/running breeds, lots of tug and puzzle play for the littler ones. I enjoy some wrestling/roughhousing if that's on the table (some families don't want to open that door, and I respect that), and other dogs need to have their minds stimulated more than they need to have physical energy depleted. If it's fun for the dog, it's fun for me!

Availability
I'm making a transition from a 10-year career as a trial attorney to a more care-focused field - I'm considering grad school to become a therapist. For now, I'm finding great joy and purpose in devoting myself to caring for your furry friends! I do this work full-time and am available to do doggy daycare in my house or yours, as well as pet/housesitting overnights if you prefer to have your pet stay in your home while you're out of town.
