Clarity, Calm, & Canine Care
Pet care experience
I run At Home With The Hounds — a psychology-based boarding & training program designed to help dogs reset, regulate, and thrive. My approach blends structure, enrichment, and calm leadership to build dogs who are confident, respectful, and emotionally balanced. Every dog in my care follows a predictable rhythm of rest, movement, training, and decompression. We use tools like the slatmill, treadmill, proprioception training, and structured enrichment to meet both mental and physical needs — without creating constant arousal.
Reviews

Alyssa is wonderful! She brings such a thoughtful, structured approach to our puppy care, focusing on calmness and creating a safe environment. I really appreciate how she’s helping our puppy learn to settle and feel secure — it’s such an important skill for a puppy. she genuinely cares and puts a lot of intention. I feel confident keeping our dog in her care. Highly recommend!

Alyssa has been the greatest blessing for us. We have searched for years to find someone who is able to love and care for our little love in the way that we do when we are away, and Alyssa did this and more. My dog has always been very nervous around new people and takes an incredibly long time to trust. But with Alyssa, our dog’s comfort and safety were made a top priority. By the end of her stay, my dog was playful, affectionate, and curious in the way that I see her at home. I saw progress in her every single day through the photos and videos that Alyssa would send me, and I got comprehensive progress updates daily which helped me see how well she was adjusting and even taught me some new ways to create balance, structure, and comfort in her life at home. I cannot recommend Alyssa enough. She truly has a gift and I’m so glad I was able to see it for myself.

Alyssa is a complete gem and expert. My doggy Kookie was in a bad situation with another sitter. I was 4 hours into my road trip. Alyssa went and rescued my Kookie to provide professional care and a positive environment for my fur baby. I was feeling really helpless and she saved our vacation. We appreciate you TONS! :)

Thank you for always taking such wonderful care of our baby girl!!

Communication
Skills
Safety, trust & environment
I cultivate a neutral, peaceful environment where dogs can relax instead of staying in a constant state of arousal. Crates are treated as bedrooms, not punishment — they’re a safe retreat where dogs can fully turn off and decompress. I accept a maximum of 5 dogs to ensure every dog gets individual attention and structured care.

Information Alyssa P. would like to know about your pet
• All dogs must be up-to-date on vaccines & preventatives • I do not accept females in active heat • Please communicate about timing — late pickups/drop-offs over 30 min without notice incur a $15/hr fee • I’m the right fit if you value calmness, structure, and thoughtful care over a “wild play all day” model. If this sounds like what your dog needs, I’d love to welcome them into the At Home With The Hounds pack.
A typical day
A “typical day” in my program is all about intentional rhythm: 1. Calm crate exits → potty break 2. Movement session (slatmill, treadmill, proprioception training) to build focus, confidence, and body awareness 3. Training block — place work, threshold training, impulse control 4. Midday crate rest for latent learning and nervous system reset 5. Afternoon enrichment: social neutrality, confidence-building exercises, or calm chewing activities 6. Evening decompression and bedtime routine Even playtime is structured — dogs learn to earn movement and access rather than expecting it on demand.
