Information Alena G. would like to know about your pet
Please let me know: 1) Are there any triggers that make your companion uncomfortable (loud noises/a specific gender/brooms/lights/skateboards/etc.)? 2) What behaviors does your companion exhibit when faced with these triggers (guarding/barking/lunging/hiding/fleeing/chewing/etc.)? 3) Does your companion have any allergies? 4) What is your companion's favorite reward (treat/cuddles/toys/etc.)? 5) Does your companion have any medical conditions/diseases/injuries/medical history?
A typical day
The animals, not the humans, are my real clients, and my time with them is structured around what they enjoy. My goal is for your companion to have a fun and beneficial time. For dogs - I make sure they get adequate exercise and enjoy their natural behaviors (sniffing, exploring, playing) while using positive reinforcement to correct undesirable behaviors like pulling or jumping. This helps set them up for success in the future while we build trust. With cats, our time can vary from playing with toys to reading aloud, to grooming - it all depends on what your companion needs and likes.

Dedicated animal welfare worker!
Pet care experience
Hello! I am a dedicated and reliable sitter with 7 years of professional animal welfare experience. I've had my own animal companions for over a decade, but entered the veterinary field in 2017. I worked at the San Francisco SPCA animal shelter hospital providing treatments and working on the behavior team. Shy, reactive, fearful animals all deserve love and care, and I am thrilled to connect with each one. I have also lead an animal welfare program for a CA-based nonprofit for three years, and focus on the wellbeing of our four-legged friends in every situation. I love to hike and swim in our beautiful South Lake Tahoe, and can't wait to share this joy with your beloved family member!

Reviews

Alena is a fantastic sitter. She spent quality time with our cats, sending pictures and a comprehensive visit summary each day, giving me peace of mind. I had no worries about my fur babies while I was gone. I highly recommend her!

So appreciated Alena's great pictures and updates while watching our two labs - great communication! One of our labs had just had TPLO (knee surgery). Alena showed so much care and attention during their stay and even questioned the incision healing complete with pictures (we had already been aware, discussed with the vet, and had a vet appt scheduled but had not communicated that to her). We will definitely use her again.

Super experienced and it shows! Seems to be a definite pet lover at heart. I loved getting to see the pictures of Aurora’s adventures during her walks. Overall I would 100% recommend Alena to anyone!

She was super great, friendly and professional! She even got out our shy cat to come out and snuggle :)
