I've never met a dog that wasn't already my friend. I've almost always had some kind of pet in my household. My family always had a dog or two while I grew up (Keeshond, Weimaraners), and we kept cats like plants, too. Now I've got a staffordshire/boxer mix who loves cuddles, hikes, and chasing squirrels. I've taken care of little scrappy dogs and excitable big dogs who love to pull. My belly rub and ear scratch game is solid. My poop-bag skills are unrelenting and after a requisite thought of, "Oh gross," I've never shied away from wiping a pup's dirty bum. I love working with familiar dogs on their tricks and seeing if we can expand their repertoire to something new (high-fiving being my current favorite). It may sound silly, but working with dogs isn't unlike people, you build a trusting relationship and everyone's happy.
