“Laura was absolutely amazing! She took such great care of our sweet boy while we were out of town. I never once worried about him and she treated him like her own. She constantly updated us on how he was doing and provided us pictures for every visit. I will definitely be booking with her again and couldn’t recommend her more! She took such great care of our home too. She is the hands down BEST!!!!”

“We came to vacation in Nags Head and needed a sitter for our young (and recently adopted) dog while we went to dinner. Meagan did a great job keeping her calm, took her out a few times and got her to eat (which we had also been struggling with). Would book again!”

“Renee is great! My first time seeking a sitter as I went out of town and I will most definitely trust her to do it all over again in the future. She is reliable, respectful, communicative, trustworthy and most of all she is great with our dogs! 100/10 would recommend!”

About: I grew up in a home full of pets, so caring for dogs has always been a part of my daily life. I have years of hands-on experience walking dogs, providing playtime and companionship, and making sure they feel safe and loved. In addition to caring for my own pets, I’ve also dog-sat for friends and family, giving me experience with different personalities, energy levels, and routines. I treat every dog as if they were my own and always focus on making their time with me fun, comfortable, and stress-free. I am currently interning part-time in Manteo, so I am available on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings, and my schedule is open during all other days of the week. I care for pets by following their usual routines as closely as possible so they feel comfortable and secure. For walks and drop-in visits, I make sure dogs get plenty of exercise, playtime, and attention while always prioritizing their safety. I’m careful with leashes, aware of their surroundings, and attentive to each dog’s energy level and needs. In a client’s home, I treat both the pets and the space with respect—keeping areas clean, refreshing food and water, and making sure pets are happy and relaxed before I leave. I also provide updates and photos so owners feel confident their pets are well cared for. Above all, I focus on patience, kindness, and treating every pet as if they were my own.
About: My family has always had pets within the house, typically dogs but also various cats as well! During COVID, we adopted a puppy and I was pretty much the main caretaker as I was in virtual school while my parents had to go into work. My younger siblings helped out a bit but I was definitely more trustworthy with the dog. That puppy grew into a 100 lb mutt who is such a teddy bear! In college, my roommate got a Chiweenie, much smaller than my family dogs, but helping out with him helped show me the various energy levels of dogs and the differing enrichment each pet needs! Last October, I adopted a hound mix of my own! She is my best friend and caring for her and interacting with other dog owners has influenced me into looking for helping out with others’ pets!! I’m on a break from my part time employment until April 11th. After that, I will work 40 hours a week, Wednesday through Sunday, with me being off Mondays & Tuesdays. I live in Nags Head but love to commute, my dog as well! So we’re often walking around the neighborhood in the morning then going on a more adventurous walk such as Jockey’s Ridge or the dog park if the sun allows! My dog personally needs a lot of sniffing time so if I’m unable to get a long distance walk in, a good sniffing walk tends to get her sleepy enough to settle. Sometimes I’ll pop by during my hour long lunch break to say hey and give her a puzzle treat game, but not always. I have a fenced in deck that I often let my dog out on. My dog is incredibly friendly and will play with dogs of all sizes, from Dachshunds to Great Danes! She plays rough, so if that’s not your dog’s play style, let me know! I’m willing to take all dogs to the various dog parks around or walk them throughout any terrains, and times! If I’m walking at night, I try to make sure I stay away from popular rods, typically sticking to my neighborhood and always have a large flashlight on hand. I’m very flexible & willing to do many things so don’t hesitate to ask for a certain activity or accommodation if I didn’t mention it!
About: I have had pets since I started walking. Our family included dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, and horses. We also had hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, and fish. I help friends and family when they need someone to care for their pets or they take a vacation. I am currently a stay at home mom. I am available during the day, most nights and some weekends. I can play with your pets in your home or I can take them out and about for walks and fun. I have 3 dogs that love everyone and everything. I can crate your pet if needed. Each situation is case by case. I want to do my best to maintain your regular routine for your pet.

About: Hi my name is Cyndy I am a reliable Pet Sitter. I have over 20 years of experience caring for all kinds of animals. I have a genuine love and respect for all animals. I worked for a Veterinary hospital and have been trained, but not licensed, as a Veterinary Technician. I also went to school for dog grooming. I am effective in working with them not only because of my experience and knowledge base, but due to my sincere compassion and empathy for them. I retired from Food Lion after 23 years; and since retiring, I have taken my passion for animals to a higher level. I advocate for them in many ways. On one occasion I walked to Washington DC from Manteo to bring awareness to our U.S. Congressional delegation regarding the way our sheltered animals are killed. A few months later I walked from Manteo to Raleigh to address our State legislators as well. I have two rescue dogs, one foster dog, and five rescue cats. When caring for pets I ensure they are fed, watered, and walked. I also ensure they have plenty of play time and, most importantly, know they are loved. I am responsible and take the trust of my clients very seriously. My organizational skills are outstanding and I am able to keep track of appointments and related tasks. I absolutely love animals of all kinds and I am an enthusiastic and loving care provider. My passion shows and I have been commended by my family and friends. I would love to bring my dedication and professionalism to your home or mine as your Pet Sitter. I am enthusiastic and hard working. I am available on most any days. My fee varies depending on distance and how long you want me to spend with your pet. I am confident that you will find me to be an outstanding candidate for caring for your Pet. Please contact me at your convenience for a Meet & Greet. I look forward to hearing from you and thank you in advance for your time. References upon request. Services provided: Pet sitting, dog walking, dog beach trips, daily pet visits, pet bathing, medication administration, pet taxi, kitty care and can full fill any and all vet appointments. Thank you Regards, Cyndy - The Animal Care Giver

“Liz is an excellent care giver! She provided frequent updates including some very cute photos and most importantly our dogs Bowie and Piper loved her right from the start! (And dogs know best!) We were so happy Liz was available to care for our dogs 🐾”

About: I grew up on a farm where I cared for upwards of 20+ family dogs (of all ages, sizes, and demeanors), many cats, horses, miniature ponies, chickens, and more. If it has four legs, chances are I have probably cared for one at least once in my lifetime. Our house always had at least three or four dogs at a time, so I am well versed in the art of managing multiple strong personalities at once. My first dog I adopted myself was special needs beagle, and I am very comfortable with assisting with dogs who have higher needs. That beagle lived a long happy life before he crossed that rainbow bridge, and I've just welcomed in a bloodhound puppy about a year ago named Gus. He is a wonderful testament to the hard work my partner and I have dedicated to turning him into a good dog, and he plays well with any dog he meets, no matter if they play rough or gentle, or if they're timid or chaotic. I am also a registered nurse and I am a quick study to any health needs your pet may have. I am local to the OBX and have many different options up my sleeve when it comes to keeping your pup entertained and active during our time together, as well as knowledge of where to avoid so that your pup doesn't end up with any sand spurs. I've handled dogs all my life, and have yet to meet a dog who challenged me (even aggressive ones who had run off previous sitters). I look forward to hearing about you and your pups needs and providing attention to detail and rounded care to your dog as if they were my own. I work as a middle school nurse from the second week in August to the first week in June. My summers allow me to have open availability to serve the pet owner community. If you have pet care needs during the school year, I do have availability on weekends, or after 4pm on week days. I intend to treat the dogs I care for as my own, so the structure I follow mirrors how I work with my own dog. Dogs get potty breaks and brief walks at minimum every three hours, more often if the weather is good. Once or twice a day (weather permitting) I go for what I call "a big romp" -- this can be running and playing fetch on a small private soundside beach within my neighborhood, a walk on the big beach, a visit to the dog park (which would only happen if owner and I have discussed this), a stroll through Nags Head Woods or around the Wright Brother's monument. As we move into summer, these activities will be limited by the heat so I tend to do these early in the day or at sunset/dusk to avoid dogs overheating. I always carry with me some treats and a bottle of water for the doggo. If the weather is poor or it's just too hot for larger scale activities, I like to invoke puzzle toys, treats wrapped up in towels, or burying treats and toys in the dig pit I've built in my back yard.
“Brandi’s communication was amazing, she scheduled a video chat prior to the drop in and was extremely flexible with my schedule. Due to my own stupid scheduling SNAFU she didn’t have a chance to drop in on the dogs but I would happily schedule with her again. I really appreciated her communication and would definitely book with her next time I’m in the area.”

“Olivia was great doing drop-in’s for our cats! She did a FaceTime with me before since we lived further away and sent text updates and took some cute cat photos. She also grabbed our package that was left outside, without being asked. Overall was reliable and easy to work with!”

About: I take care of dogs, cats, and chickens at home and frequently dog sit for neighbors and friends. I am open to taking care of any breed and age cat or dog, and other species as well! I work part time, so I have lots of availability. I do not have a set schedule so I am very flexible with days and times. I am happy to follow any specific instructions to meet the individual needs of your pets and ensure they are as happy and comfortable as possible!
“Michael was great! Rocco my pit bloodhound mixis a 51-pound 10 month old puppy with a lot of energy and a traumatic past and he does not warm up to everyone quickly. Michael helped him feel at ease with patience and confidence. He was, friendly, professional, on time, and communicated with me constantly with each visit. I work several times a year in the area. I will always contact him moving forward.”

About: Hi! I’m 26 and have over 7 years of experience caring for both dogs and cats. I’ve worked with pets of all ages, sizes, and personalities, and always aim to make them feel safe, comfortable, and loved. I don’t have a pet of my own right now, so pet sitting is a great way for me to stay connected to animals—and give them the care and attention they deserve while you're away. I work remotely, so my schedule is flexible and I’m able to give your pet consistent attention throughout the day. Whether it’s a midday walk, playtime, or just some extra company, I’m around to make sure they’re well cared for. I have a fully fenced yard that’s perfect for safe outdoor play and fresh air. For pets staying with me, I treat them like they’re my own—making sure they feel comfortable, cared for, and right at home.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
