Matt was amazing! Extremely tentative and very professional. He watched out 2 dogs and cat over an entire weekend. He sent regular pics and updates the whole time. Provided walks for our Golden and was extremely accommodating with our senior dog, as well, who has the typical senior dog needs and “white glove” care. We will definitely be booking Matt in the future. I would highly recommend.

About: I love animals just as much as I love my family. I’ve had pets my whole life and have cared for more than I’ve owned. I’ve had a variety of animals. I’ve had cats, dogs, guinea pigs, birds (parakeets, cockatiels and I babysat an African Grey Parrot in my home for a year), snakes, a scorpion, hermit crabs, fish, a rabbit, a turtle and a jumping spider. I also volunteered at a Wildlife Rescue in Austin Tx, where I helped care for birds, opossums (my favorites!), rabbits, raccoons, skunks, etc. I fed baby birds and tube fed baby opossum (I had to insert the tube down their throats to feed them due to the way they suckle in their mother’s pouch). I have experience caring for sick and injured pets, including diabetic cats and other ill animals. I’ve given medicines orally and through injections, such as administering fluids under the skin with an IV and giving insulin shots. I have a disabled cat whose back legs don’t work properly due to an injury she sustained as a kitten, before we adopted her. Several of my pets have lived to be 20, so I also have plenty of experience with sweet, older animals. My dog is a bit of a nervous traveler and is terrified of loud noises and car rides; he has severe anxiety, so he sometimes needs medication to help him feel comfortable. I found out that I’m autistic (formerly called Asperger’s) a few years ago. I always thought I was just different/weird! 😆 I also have OCD and ADHD, which means I really take good care of your pets and will keep everything tidy! I’m also passionate about houseplants and would be happy to care for yours if you'd like! I don’t work a full time job, so I have a very flexible schedule. I’m also a homebody, so I don’t have a busy schedule either. I try to give your pets the calmest and happiest experience while you’re not home. My goal is to help them forget you’re gone, by following the same routine they are used to and giving them all the love, attention and playtime they need. I’m also judgement free and will follow your house rules, religious or otherwise. I will always treat your pets and home with respect.

About: I just moved back to Ohio and I have had pets my whole life and lost my baby a bit ago. I know how they are family and deserve all the love. My dog was older and had a lot of health issues so I am familiar with different medication that may be needed. I’m currently in grad school for nurse anesthesia and study most days from home. I have a pretty open schedule except Thursday and Friday morning-afternoon but can be available early in the am or that evening. Happy to answer any questions. Anytime except Thursday and Friday morning. I have online lectures so I can have open availability during the rest of the week and weekends. I can discuss as well I would prefer to watch your loved one at your home or do day sitting/walks. My current dog is very timid and a rescue and is scared of literally everything so I don’t want to stress him out

If you're like us, we look for care providers with multiple reviews so we have a better idea of who we're hiring. But everyone needs to start somewhere, and this time we decided to give someone a chance who hadn't received reviews yet; boy did we luck out. Jaina did a fantastic job looking after our 80 pound loverboy, Luca. She stayed in our home while we were away five days, and both he--and our home--were well taken care of. He even got a daily walk (in winter, no less!). Jaina is who you want in a sitter: responsive, reliable and kind. She provided daily updates and photos of our dog, too. We would hire her again, and suggest you do too before people catch on and her rates go up.

Debbie did a great job sitting for my 9 year old Boxer in our camper while we laid my Mom’s ashes in Mentor Cemetary. We are from MT and he’s not used to this heat and humidity. I got her with a last minute request yesterday and she did wonderfully. Highly recommend.

After our meet and greet, I felt totally at ease with leaving my Lucy in Emily’s care. She obviously loves dogs, that’s for sure! I went away this weekend feeling no anxiety about going because of that. Emily took excellent care of her, sending me occasional pictures. When I came home, Lucy was very happy to see me, and my house was still in perfect order. Emily is the best💕

About: In Kindergarten, my family got our first puppy. Her name was Daisy and she is my guardian angel. We grew up together, we played together, I learned the responsibilities, better yet I discovered my natural connection with animals. I nurtured her when we were scared of storms and picked her up going upstairs during her senior years. Years later our family got another puppy named Mowgli and he is my pal. Raising him was a different task and experience but he turned out to be a great partner. We run, fetch, catch and of course clean and bathe often. I have dog sit and walked for neighbors and family. It would be amazing to get to know your pup! Currently working part time so very flexible. Hoping to have more time to assist in pet needs and get to know some new furry friends. Backyard has a fence and house has a few floors to play. If preferred or allowed, sure don’t mind pets in the bed or couch.

About: I work my typical job as a 5th grade teacher but was a nanny before that with lots of dog experience from that! However, I have cared for many families that had older dogs and cats as well as have gotten puppies while I was their nanny. So, I have experience with all ages of dogs as well as cats. I am currently working as a 5th grade teacher during the day until 3pm. With my nights being completely free the nights I work as well as weekends! I can be flexible, if you need quick visits or longer stays of visits for your animals. Based on your needs in your home I am able to accommodate!

FAQs for House Sitting - Madison

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Madison on Rover is $48.15 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 219 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Madison. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Madison walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Madison maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Madison choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Madison. On Rover:

  • 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 90% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
