“5 stars! I couldn’t be happier with the care Nova received! Abogail and her wonderful children went above and beyond to make sure my Nova was comfortable and happy while I was away. I accidentally forgot to pack my dog’s bowls and toys, but she was so prepared and thoughtful she had extra bowls and plenty of toys on hand, which really put my mind at ease. I could tell Nova was well loved and well taken care of the entire time. She made sure to stay in contact with me with updates and pictures which I greatly appreciated! I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring, and prepared sitter! If I could give more than 5 starts I would! Don’t think twice Abogail is the best choice you will not be disappointed I PROMISE!”

About: I am originally from South Africa where I volunteered daily at the shelter near our campus. I have been obsessed with animals since I was a little girl. Whether it is simply watching them, playing, snuggling or going on a walk, it makes my day just as much as I hope it makes theirs. I am extremely patient and kind and will treat your fur baby like my own. I am a reliant and trustworthy person who will make sure to update you at all times. My weekly work schedule looks as follows: Weekdays: 7:30am-2:35pm Weekends: Home all day. I am a complete homebody and once I am home, I do not leave!! When I am taking care of someone’s pet, I give them all the time I can and my utmost attention. I live in a quiet condo near the Mandeville lakefront with a nature reserve nearby that is great for walking dogs who also prefer no disruptions! I am always flexible and ready to adjust to your fur baby’s needs and learn their little quirks and routine. I have a fenced yard where we hang out in the afternoon/evenings and get our fresh air (Only for dogs). Inside, all pets are allowed on the furniture and sleep on the bed! I am also happy to use a crate if you prefer this as well. I have walked dogs since I was 18 and have experience with dogs that pull or have a lot of strength/power. I love to hang out with them, snuggle and watch tv, go on long walk to get our steps in and teaching them tricks or playing fetch. I am very conscious of my surroundings and always keep a close eye on pets. I want you and your pet to feel safe and comfortable with the service and time spent with me. Each pet I take care of, I treat as if they were my own.

About: Dogs have been part of my life since childhood, and I've spent decades caring for them through virtually every stage of life—from energetic puppies learning their first routines to senior dogs who need a slower pace, extra patience and a little more help getting through their day. Over the years, I've cared for dogs of different sizes, breeds, personalities and energy levels, including my own dogs and those of friends and family. I'm comfortable with puppies and the additional supervision, consistency and frequent potty breaks they require, as well as older dogs who may need shorter walks, more rest, mobility accommodations or simply a quieter environment. I also have experience caring for dogs with medical conditions and special needs, including following an owner's established care instructions and medication schedule. I understand that these dogs may require closer observation and that even small changes in behavior, appetite, mobility or energy can be important. I take that responsibility seriously and will always follow the care routine you provide for your dog. I've spent years working with my own dogs on basic obedience and good manners and have helped friends and family with their dogs as well. I'm comfortable reinforcing established commands and routines such as sit, stay, come, wait, leave it and polite household behavior. While I'm not a professional dog trainer, I'm patient and consistent and enjoy reinforcing the good habits owners are already teaching at home. I'm retired and home much of the time, which allows me to provide something that's difficult to replicate in a traditional boarding environment: time, attention and companionship. I intentionally keep my boarding low-volume so that the dogs staying with me receive individual attention rather than becoming one of many animals in a busy facility. And then there's the setting. The Happy Acre — Private Dog Retreat offers approximately one acre of private outdoor space where dogs can run, play and explore, along with a comfortable home environment where they can relax and be part of the household. My goal is simple: when you're away, I want your dog to receive the same kind of attentive, loving care I'd want someone to provide for my own dogs. I'm retired and spend much of my time at home, so caring for dogs fits naturally into my daily routine. Unlike a sitter who may be away at work for eight or ten hours, I'm generally available throughout the day for outdoor play, potty breaks, feeding, companionship and individual attention. My schedule is flexible, allowing me to adapt to each dog's normal routine as much as possible. I also intentionally limit the number of dogs I accept so that every guest receives plenty of my time and attention. At The Happy Acre — Private Dog Retreat, my goal is to provide a safe, comfortable home-away-from-home where every dog receives individual attention and is treated as part of the household. My spacious backyard is fully enclosed by a secure 6-to-8-foot privacy fence, giving dogs plenty of room to run, sniff, explore and play safely. A doggie door provides direct access from the house to the backyard, so my furry guests can go outside for a potty break, stretch their legs or simply enjoy some fresh air whenever they choose. I'm home much of the time and stay nearby to supervise and join in the fun—because playing with dogs is genuinely one of the great joys in my life. I intentionally keep my boarding low-volume so I can closely supervise the dogs in my care and give each one plenty of personal attention. I prefer to meet new dogs beforehand whenever possible to make sure they're comfortable with me, my home and my own dogs before their first overnight stay. Every dog is different, so I follow each owner's instructions regarding feeding, medications, sleeping arrangements, exercise and established routines. I also pay close attention to changes in behavior, appetite, energy level and overall well-being throughout their stay. Nothing is more important to me than their safety, comfort and happiness while they're in my care. Whether your dog wants to spend the day running and playing outside, relaxing indoors, following me around the house or cuddling by my side, I want The Happy Acre to feel less like boarding and more like their own private country retreat. You can enjoy your time away knowing your furry family member is safe, loved, well cared for—and having a pretty wonderful vacation of their own.

You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

94% of sitters in Hickory can provide daily exercise during dog boarding stays. Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, this may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.

During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.

Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Hickory home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:

  • Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
  • Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
  • Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Hickory.

Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

You and your Hickory sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Many sitters in LA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

Adding another pup to the pack? Most sitters and walkers offer a reduced rate for additional dogs. You’ll find these exact rates listed under the "Services" tab on any sitter's profile. Since every dog is unique, final pricing may vary depending on the level of care required.
