About: I’ve been caring for animals for over 10 years and have experience with both dogs and cats of all different ages, personalities, and needs. I’ve cared for seniors, special-needs pets, anxious animals, and pets who need oral medications or a little extra patience. I’m big on following each pet’s normal routine as closely as possible — meals, walks, medications, playtime, bedtime, and all the little things they’re used to at home. Some pets want to be attached to your hip, while others need time and space to warm up, and I’m happy to let them set the pace. I have two cats of my own and have had cats throughout my life, so I’m very comfortable with cat care as well as dogs. I’m used to everything from easygoing pets to the stubborn, mischievous, and “will absolutely eat that if you turn around for two seconds” variety. Most importantly, I want you to feel comfortable while you’re away. I’ll pay attention to your instructions, keep you updated, and make sure your pet is safe, comfortable, and getting plenty of attention. I spend most of my free time at home and have a pretty flexible routine, so I’m able to give pets plenty of attention, playtime and company. We always start the day with a morning walk before I head to work, and I’m usually home by 3pm for the rest of the afternoon and evening. When I’m not home, my husband usually is, so there’s typically someone around to keep an eye on things and give your pet some company. I can sometimes accommodate short-notice requests, and I live right next to two parks in a safe neighborhood with plenty of places to walk. My home is kept pretty pet-safe — my two cats are professional troublemakers, so they’ve made sure we don’t leave much out that curious pets can get into. It’s just my husband and me at home, so there aren’t lots of unfamiliar people coming and going. We have a fully fenced backyard, and the house is mostly hardwood and tile, so scratches, muddy paws, and normal pet messes aren’t something I stress about. If your pet needs their own space, they can also have an entire room to themselves for a quiet, comfortable place to relax.

About: Dogs have always been a part of my family. But I love all animals. I have pet sat for several family friends so I am used to adapting to animal needs. Whether it be a dog, cat, or fish, I am happy to provide care and entertainment to your pet. Currently I am in grad school so I do have some classes, however there is a lot of availability in my schedule especially if you are looking for furry friend to go on a late afternoon walk. If I am in a client’s home I will always make sure to either have your pet on a leash or in a fenced in area, depending on permissions. My go to is follow the owner’s instructions, and if something comes up I will ask or take the safest option (ie leash always while outside). If a client’s pet is to stay with me, I do have a small dog park I can take them to.

About: I’ve been caring for cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, and many other animals for most of my life. I’ve had two wonderful dogs of my own, a Basset Hound and a Dachshund, who were a huge part of my heart. They were both pretty stubborn, so along the way I picked up some useful training skills as well. My schedule is flexible and can be adjusted with one week’s notice before the boarding date. Otherwise, I’m available anytime on weekends and weekdays after 5 p.m. I’m happy to coordinate and accommodate your scheduling needs whenever possible. I provide loving, attentive, and reliable care for every pet, making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and happy in their own environment. I follow each pet’s routine for feeding, walks, playtime, and rest, while giving them plenty of affection and attention. I’m happy to follow specific instructions for medications, special diets, and individual needs. I also provide regular updates and photos so you can feel confident that your furry family member is in good hands. My goal is to make every pet feel loved, secure, and cared for while you’re away!

“Michael has been an absolute saint. The fur babies love him and trust him. My one, Bean, is a very shy and timid cat. She does not like people but within a couple of weeks of Michael visiting she soon trusted him then gives him snuggles and kisses. As soon as I met Michael I knew he could be trusted with my babies. There is a safe and calm energy with him which is why I believe my cats trusted him so fast. I will forever recommend Michael to anyone in the area.”

About: Hi! I’m a reliable and experienced pet sitter with 6 years of professional pet-sitting experience. I offer dog walking, drop-in visits, and house sitting, and I love caring for dogs of all sizes and temperaments. Your pet’s safety, comfort, and routine are my top priorities. I’m experienced with feeding schedules, administering medication, exercise needs, and senior pet care. I always provide photo and message updates so you can relax knowing your pet is happy and well cared for. I treat every pet like family and aim to create a safe, calm, and loving environment while you’re away. I look forward to meeting you and your pets! Hi! I’m Mallory! I’m enrolled in college online which has opened up my schedule to be able to take care of your pups! I love pets of all kind so pet sitting is the perfect activity to partake in durning my free time! I also have access to military bases! I currently have a 8 year old Great Dane( Minnie ) and 2 kitties named Louie and Lizzy! I take Minnie on walks around the neighborhood which is important at her older age she moves her body. She gets treats frequently, along with the kitties of course. Louie and Lizzy also enjoy there time outside, they mostly stay inside but when it’s nice enough outside they stroll on our outside porch. All of the things I do for my pets, I would do for yours.

About: Whether I’m babysitting, just going for a walk, or a play date, I’ll take care of your fur baby as if it was my own. I am the kind of person who sits on the floor with dogs I don’t even know just to get kisses. I also go to the off-leash park by myself just play with different races, sizes, etc and be more familiar with each. Who knew you couldn’t treat a chihuahua like a Great Dane? Or that greyhounds are quite lazy! I have the best vet in the area on speed dial but I’m also trained in dog cpr for minor scrapes or incidents. I don’t hesitate to act and like to solve problems myself instead of passing them on to you! That way you can come home to a happy pampered pooch! I absolute adore cats as well and I have 3 of my own. I can’t wait to meet and care for your 4-legged babies In the morning I pick up all the pups (for free!) then I bring them to daycare where we have a full day of fun making friends, playing, resting, etc until it’s time to drop the off with their mommies and daddies all over again Daycare and boarding have their own room with access to the yard and individual suites for pups that need breaks from the pack setting and mealtime

My approach is holistic, favoring natural, high quality products, including options like freeze dried raw treats and probiotics to support their well being. Animals have always been a central part of my life. I was raised with dogs and learned early on the importance of responsible, loving care. My bishon frise’ was with me for 15 wonderful years. I raised her from just a few weeks old. She thrived with attentive care, nutritious meals, and an active, joyful lifestyle. People often mistook her for a puppy even in her senior years because of her vibrant spirit. She went everywhere with me, was deeply loved, and truly family. Caring for other pets has been both meaningful and healing, and I bring that same level of devotion to every animal I meet. Affection is abundant… pets in my care receive plenty of love, reassurance, and even relaxing pet massages. I follow your instructions closely and take pride in delivering care that reflects the same compassion I gave my own. I’m happy to provide references, detailed information, and testimonials upon request. For house-sitting clients, I treat your home with the utmost respect and often leave it even cleaner than I found it. I bring my own linens (towels, pillow, blankets) I provide regular updates via text or email, depending on your preference. With experience managing large homes and working as a trusted nanny for over 20 years, I understand the importance of discretion, reliability, and attention to detail. I also welcome long-term opportunities. It’s an honor to care for animals, and I approach every assignment with gratitude, dedication, and heart. I’m fortunate to have the freedom to do what I love without being tied to a schedule. As an artist and poet, I create my own rhythm-spending my time writing and painting, often with soothing music in the background. I also find joy in being outdoors, especially walking in nature with dogs or basking in the sunshine on a beach towel in the backyard with furry companions. Safety is always my top priority. With over 20 years of experience as a professional nanny caring for newborns through every stage of childhood, I’ve built a strong foundation in attentiveness, patience, and dependable care - and I bring that same level of dedication to every animal I look after. My routine is calm, structured, and nurturing. While I get ready for the day, dogs often relax nearby, comfortable and at ease before we head out for walks, play, or a new adventure. I also prepare fresh, healthy meals for pets, whether in my home or while housesitting, making sure their needs are met with care and consistency. I enjoy old-school music, writing, and painting, and I bring that same peaceful, positive energy into the environment. Overall, the pets in my care receive steady attention, genuine affection, and a calm, loving presence from start to finish.

FAQs for Cat Sitting - Durham

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of November 2026, there are 1,398 sitters on Rover offering Cat Sitting across Durham. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Cat sitters on Rover care for your cats’ needs and can spend quality time with them, including activities like feeding, playing, and refreshing their water and litter boxes. Depending on your arrangement, you can schedule as many visits per day as your cat needs or find a sitter who can stay at your house overnight. Some sitters also board cats in their home.

House sitting can be ideal for cats who need socialization or care that lasts longer than a few hours. Your cat stays in their own home, on their own schedule, with care based on what you and your sitter agree on together.

Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.

If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.

Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.

During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first Meet & Greet.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Durham. On Rover:

  • 83% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 89% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 88% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.

Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
