Selena watched our dog for the first time this week and will watch her again next weekend. She communicated effectively before & during the dog sitting at our home. She was so sweet with our dog & gave us regular updates. She is trustworthy & respected our requests for our dog. We are so blessed we found Selena. We will definitely use her in the future too! Thanks for giving us peace of mind while we were gone.

Jamie just did a two week stay with our 2 kitties and we are very pleased with how it went. Our cats have some issues and Jamie did great with the lengthy instructions we left. She sent daily updates and pictures and the cats were happy and healthy when we returned. She is very caring and her love for animals is very apparent. We will definitely be using Jamie in the future.

Arianna was great with our two boys and was super helpful in setting up the house sitting appointment. She sent plenty of updates and pictures of our boys during the trip and kept everything under control around the house. Even our normally standoffish schnauzer warmed up to her by the end of her time! Would definitely recommend Arianna for your pet sitting or any other pet help needs.

Cannon did a great job watching the dogs and cat. The cat is skittish around new people but by day 3 she was out and lying in her spot with the dogs and Cannon. That showed me she was comfortable with Cannon. The pictures Cannon send showed the dogs being their normal selves. I would have Cannon watch my animals again.

This was my first time leaving my two dogs with someone other than family. Kailyn did an amazing job with my two dogs who have a lot of behavioral issues that require special considerations (feeding and walking separately, medications, etc). She sent me pics and videos of the dogs too. Highly recommend!

Kathy has been absolutely wonderful to work with! I have two dogs, a senior Vizsla and young Boston Terrier. I hired Kathy to pet sit for three days, several hours each day. Kathy went above and beyond to make my pets feel comfortable! She engaged with them, sent pictures throughout the day and let me know how they were doing. She also had great communication prior to the booking. I will definitely hire Kathy again.

About: I have always loved and cared for animals with a serious passion, which is why I am a pet sitter. I have wonderful skills with caring for, training, and entertaining animals of all kinds! Animals have always taken a very keen liking to me, and are generally very obedient with me, even when told to expect otherwise by the owners! I have owned and cared for very high maintenance and high needs animals. I have years of experience with the fortunate friends with no problems, and I have years of experience with pets with special needs, examples being; blind, deaf, missing legs, mental conditions and pets who have had health conditions of all kinds. I have no preference to what kind of animals I care for, and I maintain the utmost love, affection, training, and care for each and every animal I watch over. I work as a private contractor and cosmetologist (yes, you read that right) which allows me to make my own schedule. I like to incorporate pet care into that schedule, because it’s a fulfilling use of my time. I am a highly qualified and experienced in-home worker, outside of pet care. I regularly enter clients homes and make it a strict point to ALWAYS leave it nicer than I found it. I will intentionally sweep a little more than just the mess I made providing a service, I will wash extra dishes if I used one and there are some there that need it. I follow directions with the same strictness, which makes me a great person to work with.

I booked Maggie to stay at my house and take care of my two dogs while I was out of town. I didn't like the idea of kenneling them and liked the idea of having someone watch them at my house but was hesitant at first. I have never done this before. To say Maggie was awesome is an understatement. My dogs loved spending time with both Maggie and her dog Willow. The house was just as clean as it was when I left when I returned. She brought my garbage can back in after pick up. Got the mail and sent pics and videos. I think my pups miss her and Willow. I was so impressed I just booked for my next trip out of town.

Monica was truly incredible and one of the best experiences we’ve ever had with a pet sitter. She stayed in our home for four evenings caring for our 3 dogs, our cat, and even our fish, and we felt completely at ease the entire time. She sent consistent photo and text updates, which gave us so much peace of mind and made it easy to actually relax while we were away. She went above and beyond in so many ways that made a real difference. She washed her dishes, did the hand towels she used, took the time to get our cat’s fountain running again using somewhat tedious directions, and even handled cleaning up some unexpected basement flooding after a major storm. Everything was taken care of thoughtfully and without us having to worry. We came home to a house that looked and smelled incredible. It was spotless, organized, and she paid attention to the smallest details, like setting lights back exactly how we had left them. It genuinely felt like walking into a calm, cared-for space instead of coming home to a to-do list. This experience honestly felt so much better than having a friend or family member help out. There was no guilt, no worrying about being a burden, and no second guessing anything. Monica is clearly experienced and professional, and it shows in how smoothly everything was handled from start to finish. On top of everything else, she is just a genuinely kind, warm, and easy person to communicate with. I was honestly a little sad we didn’t get more time to be home and connect with her because she is such a joy to be around. We tried to make her feel welcome with snacks, cash, and a few small take-home gifts, but it still doesn’t feel like enough compared to the level of care she gave our home and our pets. Monica was truly a gift, and we will absolutely be rebooking with her any chance we get.

About: I grew up with a dog my age so I not only had experience with him as a puppy while I was young but taking care of him as an older dog while we grew up. As I have been an adult I have taken on the role for many family members and friends of pet sitter. I often care for multiple dogs and cats in their own home and I love it! Ive trained and cared for pets of all kinds and I hope to never stop! I'm currently an ASL interpreting student entering my sophomore year of college. I have school on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8-4, and I spend the rest of my time studying at home, and going hiking/walking with my dog! I have grown up with many different dogs, so I have lots of pet experience. I can care for puppies and elderly dogs, enthusiastic and shy dogs, and all kinds of cats! I am also technologically skilled, a good troubleshooter, and know how to take care of a house in general.

FAQs for House Sitting - Centerburg

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of September 2026, there are 1,363 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Centerburg. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Centerburg walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Centerburg maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Centerburg choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Centerburg. On Rover:

  • 94% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 92% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
