“Highly recommended!!! Juan has been an excellent dogsitter from start to finish. Great communication, very conscientious, and thinks of all the details. He also genuinely cared about our dog who, though we love dearly, isn't always the easiest to live with. Juan, thank you for making our time away stress-free. We are very grateful!”

“Autumn was an absolute pleasure to deal with, she was very responsive and respectable. One of our dogs is a bit of barker when they first meet people. However upon meeting Autumn for the first time he seemed to really like her with no issues whatsoever. Autumn has a wonderful demeanour and took care of both our pups and house while we were away on vacation. We will definitely have her back again.”

“Grace was great! Super professional and easy to work with. When there was a SNAFU with our booking dates (totally my fault) she was able to accommodate, which obviously can’t be taken for granted given availability but was incredibly helpful in the moment! My dog can be anxious and reactive and can get stressed out when we leave her with someone new, but she was completely happy and relaxed when we came home. Thanks Grace!”

“Nothing but great things to say about Victoria. This is our third time having her take care of our cat and she is always so great to work with. Our cat loves her so we feel so comfortable leaving her with Victoria. She even went above and beyond and even left our apartment cleaner than how we left it. We really appreciate her level of service.”

“Such caring people!! Cali enjoyed her time with you. I appreciate that you were available on shirt notice, and likely in new circumstances. Cali certainly was tail- wagging happy with you, as I was.”

“Maggie was wonderful. Bailey was taken care of so well. Maggie is very easy going and kept us in the loop with updates and pictures. Trustworthy and dependable. I would recommend her.”

About: Growing up with pets my whole life I have lots of experience with small and large breeds. I have taken care of anxious pups, ones with loads of energy, and small puppies. I have a senior dog myself and I have plenty of experience with unique needs that may come with age. I’m a Social Work student at Memorial. I’m currently doing part-time studies and working part-time until the end of August. Beginning in September I will be on work term, working Monday to Friday. Providing the best care for your pets in the comfort of their space is something I take pride in. I’ll be sure to have clear communication about your pet’s needs and how to bond best in their environment.
About: All pets will be loved and taken care of, they will definitely be my priority during the time they are with me. Had dogs for the major part of my childhood, so growing up connecting to pets is not much of a problem for me. Will be playing with them pretty much all the time for sure, do not have to worry about any kinds of danger, safety will be ensured first. Any kind of special care requested will be happily accepted and extra attention will be payed towards the concern. Would love to stay connected to each pet, should expect me to secretly give treats to all the good pets out there ☺️💙 Every service provided will be the best. So when can I meet your pet??! 🤩
About: I've always been good with animals, I'm great at understanding their body language and respecting their boundaries. I have good control of my tone of voice when speaking to animals and they respond to it well. I've taken care of dogs and cats myself. I've even kept a bunny company. I have a lot of patience, and I genuinely care about the wellbeing of every living being I come across so I take their care very seriously. I'm currently working part-time tutoring through zoom. I'm going back to university classes in the fall semester but I have a pretty flexible schedule at the moment. I'm very attentive and careful when taking care of them, I've cared for puppies and kittens as well. I don't leave them out of my sight. I play with them and make sure they're behaving.
About: I have owned 3 cats and fostered one cat, and I have also lived in homes with dogs and enjoy small dogs especially. I like to focus my attention on rescue cats and pride myself on breaking down barriers with animals by getting to know them individually and reading their signals for affection, playtime, and care. My special skills are with high-needs cats. I own a cat named Talon with epilepsy who is a rescue, and my previous cat, Simba, who is no longer with us, suffered from HCM. My current cat Talon suffers from behavioural issues and seizures and I have gotten him to really open up through his complicated health history. I also have had a lot of experience in dealing with kittens, as I had my own cat, Simba, from six weeks old, and never left his side. However, I do love a beautiful pure-breed cat or dog and had a Siamese as a child, whom I carried to the grocery store in my jacket pocket. What sets me apart is my patience towards animals and my ability to read and show empathy to challenging animals. I am currently a full-time student studying Social Work online and can do pretty much anytime a bus route is present. I don't have many commitments besides the care of my own animals. I live downtown and have proximity to most places, being on the 10 route as well, within walking distance of the centre city. I can provide daily litter cleaning, feeding, and watering, and basic medication administration. I am also willing to take them outside or spend time with them playing and providing them with comfort while their pawrents are not home.

I’ve got perfect reviews on trustedpetsitters I look forward to meeting more 4 legged friends and helping out where possible! Feel free to reach out with any questions or opportunities I currently live in the east end with my wife. Since a brain tumour in 2021 forced early retirement; I’ve got lots of flexibility to pursue other interests and things I love like playing and staying with animals. I can usually be available on short notice I have looked after pets since i was a kid. I love dogs (and cats of course) and look forward to helping care for your baby. About: I have a huge passion for animals, especially dogs. I love keeping animals happy, and I'll love your dog like it's my own. I've had dogs my whole life, and I love the outdoors and walking. I'll make sure your dog gets lots of exercise, and I'll keep the walks fresh and new, bringing your dog to many different trails. I am completely comfortable with all sorts of dogs. I used to own a mix named Tickey, a Golden Retriver named Daisy, a King Charles Spaniel named Katie, and I now own a Portuguese Water Dog named Odin. I’ve done some dog walking for people while they were travelling for a few weeks and absolutely loved it. I cannot wait to meet your dog! I love making new friends, I feel like I have a special connection with animals because I am open and 100% comfortable. I work as a barista and am off almost every Monday, Thursday and Sunday. So I can walk anytime on those days. On days that I work I walk Odin every afternoon when I get off at 3, so I can walk your dog/s with Odin, or separately afterwards I have a fenced in yard that is all grass and it is always mowed and fully cleaned. I also have woods right behind my house that is great for walking

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - St. John's
Kristen was incredible from the start, very accommodating to our girl. She was quite nervous in the beginning, Kristen was understanding and caring. Very responsive when I was checking in. We are extremely pleased with how she cared for Rue. We could tell upon our return that Kristen was a good fit because she kept going over to her and nudging her and indicating on her. This tells me she did a great job.

Adam took great care of our dogs while we were out of town for 4 days. You can tell he loves animals because of the way the animals react towards him. Very grateful to have found him when we did. Thanks so much for being kind and taking care of our babies while we were gone

We booked Alexis to stay at our house for 5 days while we were away in Montreal, and she was absolutely amazing. She took care of our two female golden retrievers — a 5-month-old puppy and a 5-year-old — plus our senior cat, and managed all of them perfectly. She sent daily photos and updates, was super responsive, and handled the puppy’s energy like a pro — both dogs were happily tired every day. She also made sure our older girl got her pills daily, which isn’t always easy. When we got home, all three pets were happy, relaxed, and clearly well cared for. The house was exactly as we left it — clean, tidy, and in great shape. I’d absolutely recommend Alexis to anyone looking for a trustworthy, reliable sitter who genuinely cares about your pets. We’ll definitely book her again

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in St. John's maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred St. John's walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in St. John's choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
