“Jennifer was incredible. Ninja is an anxious cat who needs lots of attention, and she went above and beyond in making sure he felt safe and content. Communication was excellent, with lots of adorable photo updates. We came home to a happy cat, clean home and a sweet note! We highly recommend Jennifer!”

About: I am a dog-adorer! I have always had 4 legged family members because I grew up with dogs. My family has always been the designated neighborhood 'vet' for all pets. I currently work from home and have a great deal of flexibility. I can structure my days to fit around play and potty schedules to keep your pet on a routine. I know that dogs crave stability and I can fill in to provide that safety net to maintain that routine I have years of experience caring for dogs of various breeds, ages and sizes. As a result I am able to understand body language an various stages of a dog's life and prioritize those needs.
“Emily was amazing with our elderly anxious dog. She was staying overnight at our place, provided updates to give us peace of mind. Cici was incredibly receptive with her and that’s all we wanted ! Will book again !!”

“Thanks for everything you’ve done for us and Arlo IFE! It was our first time leaving our dog alone with someone and you made sure we felt at ease about the entire process. We look forward to working you again in the future :)”

“We hired Shenley to watch our fur babies while we were away getting married. It was so nice to not have to worry about them and just be able to focus on our day knowing that they were in great hands. We did a meet and greet with Shenley a couple weeks before her stay and her passion for animals was very apparent. She instantly clicked with our babies, giving them their own space and time to familiarize themselves with her. She read our pet guide and was ready to handle their uniqueness. She shared photos with us and answered our texts quickly too. We never for a second felt uneasy during our time away because we knew they were being loved and cared for. That meant the world to us during such a busy and special time. We all hope to see more of Shenley soon 😊”
“We had to leave 15 year old fur baby for 3 weeks and we left him in Michelle's care. She followed all our notes that we had left and was proactive in letting us know how he was doing. Michelle took not only took care of our furbaby, but our plants and our home very well. Happy to have Michelle look after our guy anytime!”

“Michelle was incredible with my boys, 2 large Standard Poodles. She took good care of them and my house. I would recommend Michelle to anyone looking for a sweet, reliable, dog loving and considerate dog sitter/walker.”
“Did a fantastic job housesitting our cat while we were away. Very responsive, flexible and attentive. She started out with an initial visit which went well. Poe was well provided for and tired from all the playing and attention he was given which is saying something for him. Could not recommend her more, and will definitely be booking again.”

About: I grew up with cats, and am very comfortable working with all temperaments! Most recently was pet-sitting all summer for a rescue cat of a friend that needed a lot of comfort and stability. I'm also a huge dog-lover! I've dog-sat for friends, neighbours and family for years. Looked after very senior dogs, including ones with difficult personalities (rescue dogs, anxious german shepards, etc). As well as younger dogs and puppies. I have cared for dogs that require medication, cones and special attention (bandages, wound care, etc). I am also trained in animal care from research training in biomedical sciences and have worked alongside Vets for proper animal care and safety. I have a flexible work schedule, working from home and also have a car. I am able to schedule walks in easily and also overnight stays. Currently work from home and have a flexible schedule. I have a car and am able to travel if needed. I am able to walk dogs during the day and also pet-sit over night if needed, weekdays or weekends. I have a fenced yard and live in spacious home with room for pets of all sizes to roam. I've cared for friends cats and dogs in the home, and it is very pet-friendly. When pet-sitting at others' homes, I am very cautious and clean, as well as respectful of your environment and privacy.
“Stephanie was wonderful with our girls and kept us informed on how they were doing while we were away. The house was spotless when we got home. It was like she wasn't even here. We will definitely be using her againa”

“Absolutely nothing but amazing things to say about Michael's care of the fur babies! They know that they are in kind, caring and loving hands with Michael and it shows.”

“Bronte was patient with our high anxiety dog and took the time to get to know her prior to sitting. She is very calm and gentle. She let us know our dog was fine and sent an update. I would recommend her!”

“Laurel took wonderful care of our home, our cat, and our puppy while we were away on vacation. From the start, we felt completely reassured knowing everything was in her kind and capable hands. She kept us updated with regular photo messages, which made it so comforting to see how happy and well cared for our pets were while we were away. Laurel truly went above and beyond. Not only did she provide attentive, loving care to our animals, but she also left our home absolutely pristine. It was such a gift to return from vacation to relaxed pets and a spotless house. We would not hesitate to recommend Laurel to anyone looking for a responsible, thoughtful, and trustworthy pet and house sitter.”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Ajax
Aya was wonderful with both Theo and Gunther, providing loving and attentive care throughout her stay in our home. I especially appreciated how she sent me pictures and updates as well as how clean and tidy she left our home. I would happily recommend her and book her again!

Robyn was an absolutely fantastic sitter for our dog, Grady. From the very first interaction, her communication was excellent — clear, prompt, and thoughtful — which immediately put us at ease. She was always punctual and incredibly reliable, and it was obvious how genuinely kind and caring she is with animals. Grady absolutely adored her! It’s clear Robyn has a natural connection with dogs and really takes the time to understand their personalities and needs. Knowing he was so comfortable and happy with her meant the world to us. On top of everything, Robyn completely surprised us with a beautiful hand-drawn portrait of Grady. It was such a thoughtful and personal gesture that truly went above and beyond anything we expected. If you’re considering booking Robyn, don’t hesitate — she is wonderful. She is trustworthy, communicative, caring, and clearly passionate about the dogs she looks after. We feel incredibly lucky to have found her and will absolutely be booking with her again. Highly, highly recommend!

Lauren and her family were absolutely wonderful! They treated our dog like one of their own and made sure she was so well cared for. We got regular updates and tons of cute pictures, which I loved. I’d definitely have Lauren watch her again and totally recommend her to anyone looking for a kind, reliable dog sitter

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Ajax maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Ajax walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Ajax choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.
If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.
If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. On Rover:
- 81% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 88% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
