We cant say enough good things about Joan and Tim. We really appreciate them taking such good care of our pup! They are always great about sending pictures and letting us know how she's doing. They have watched her several times and we always feel so comfortable leaving her with their family!

About: I have been taking care of animals for as long as I can remember and have been pet-sitting since age 10 for family, friends, and neighbors. I have almost always lived with at least one cat or dog (or both!) throughout my life. I also have experience caring for rabbits, ferrets, gerbils, fish, parakeets, bearded dragons, and cockatiels. I currently live with two indoor tortoiseshell cats who are comfortable with dogs, and one of my cats is leash-trained. I have raised and trained at least 11 dogs from puppies to adulthood (3 as my own and the others for my parents). Most of my cats I adopted as teenagers, but I have raised a few kittens from a young age. I have done extensive dog training with the 3 dogs I raised as my own in the past, and I am familiar with both dog and cat training techniques. I live in a cabin the woods in Boston, NY, on a power line gravel road. Although I do not have a fenced in back yard, your dog will enjoy going on leashed walks down the power line road multiple times per day! I earn a living through a mix of substitute teaching (summer starts June 25th!), remote research and writing gigs, tutoring, child care, and pet care. I have a flexible schedule and incorporate pet care into the mix as much as possible because I love animals. If I am boarding a dog at my home, I will not be house sitting at that time (and vice versa). While boarding or house sitting, I will consider dog walking and drop-ins depending on the needs of the client and driving distance. If you board your dog at my home, my cats and I wake up early (about 6am) and I like to go outside for a walk down the power line road right away, and then eat breakfast. Your dog will be able to spend time with me all day (on a leash when we are outside), and if I need to leave my house, they will be in their crate for no more than 4 hours (2 is my strong preference). We will go for at least one more walk before dinner, too. I will be sure to give them plenty of play time and exercise throughout the day (depending on their level of activity and how hot it is outside). No matter what, they will get a lot of love and attention! I live in a cabin in the woods in the Town of Boston, NY, so although I do not have a fenced-in yard, there is very little traffic or people around. I will be able to go on long leashed walks with your dog down the power line for exercise, and there are a few friendly neighbor dogs that would love to say hello if your dog is up for that. I do live with two cats: one of them will hide a lot while your dog is here, but the other is very dog-friendly and will want to interact with your dog. I will monitor and separate them as needed (I have a spare room). I have always crate-trained my dogs and so long as your dog is comfortable in their crate, I will use it as a safe place for them to be while they are staying with me.

Very pleased with how well our two dogs were cared for in Chelsea and Derek’s home. Both dogs needs were met and they came home happy and tired (from playing I assume). I will not hesitate to use them again.

Erika went above and beyond to accommodate us at short notice, then we were delayed at the border so arrived late, she was great to deal with and Reggie had a wonderful time, one tired and happy little dog! Thanks Erika

Kelly was absolutely amazing. We needed a dog sitter in a pinch, last minute. She met our dogs next day, then the day after we dropped them off. One of my girls has major anxiety amd super hyperactive. She took them for walks amd sent us pictures. Couldn't believe they were the same dogs! Highly recommend...

I am so excited that I found someone who will luv and take care of my fur babies like I would. This was the first time I left my babies with a sitter. Katie assured me they would be ok and for me to go enjoy myself on my little getaway! I am happy that I did! I luv how Katie made communication during their stay. I could see that my fur babies were well taken care of and was enjoying their stay. The walks, playtime, and other activities. Thank you Katie! You Rock!!!!!

Cruz was at Karen’s house for ten days. Every day they sent us pictures in the morning and evening. He always seemed very happy to be around Karen or her husband. They played , gave him snacks and went for many outside adventures. He was very well taken care of and I will definitely use them again. Thanks so much Karen for doing a wonderful job with Cruz.

My family and I went on a mini vacation for 3 nights. When I left my two dogs with Monica I felt very comfortable and felt there was no need to worry about anything, well boy was I right! She is fabulous! About 20 min into their stay with her, she messaged me pictures of them Playing and lounging around . She continued to send me pics daily of them showing me how they were, which was very relieving! The very last day one of my dogs was experiencing loose poops (we think it was just from the heat) which she also had messaged me about prior to pick up . My dog has an accident in her house which I felt terrible about but she was so easy going and sweet about it which was really nice , since I felt so bad! I would take my dogs back to her in a heartbeat! They loved their stay with her and we enjoyed our vacation without worrying about our doggies! She is also very reasonable! I would recommend her 100%!

Jenn took care of my 9 yr. old chihuahua Saturday-Sunday. We did a meet and greet at Jenn’s house the Wednesday before. I liked her right away and I could tell she loves animals. This is the first time leaving my pup overnight at someone else’s house. Jenn did an awesome job of taking care of Mia! She also sent me updates of photos and texts. I will definitely be using her again. I highly recommend her!

Kiara & Yves are genuinely such fantastic pet sitters, and kept my mind at ease during travel knowing that my cat was in such good hands! Not only were they very kind and pleasant to talk to, but Kiara was very knowledgeable about animals in general and shared some useful information. They were very diligent in making sure my kitty was being cared for properly, along with sending updates and pictures. From medication, to going out of their way to buy specific kibble that my cat was used to after not adjusting, you can be assured that your pet will be watched by responsible, enthusiastic, and caring folks.

Mickey was great. She made Beasley feel very comfortable and treated him like one of the family. She even bought him a sweater that she let us keep while we were gone because it got very cold out. He not only loved her but he also made a couple new friends at her house. Sunny and Sylvester were great companions for him during his stay. We will definitely be calling Mickey for future travels when Beasley needs a place to stay.

Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Boston home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:

  • Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
  • Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Many sitters in NY ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
