Graycie Claire the pit bull was found abandoned on a country road by good Samaritans. They couldn’t keep the shy and clearly hurting dog, and reached out to their local veterinarian, Dr. Andy Mathis, to help ease the dog’s pain.

Graycie was clearly in need of a doctor’s care. She was severely emaciated, dehydrated, and suffering from hypothermia. Worst of all, she suffered from a prolapsed uterus that was so damaged, she couldn’t even urinate. Dr. Mathis set up a fundraising page and took Graycie to the University of Georgia for immediate treatment.
The video above, which got huge attention on Facebook, shows Dr. Mathis eating breakfast with Graycie a few days after her prolapse surgery. You can see Graycie just starting to come out of her shell, as she gains weight, trust, and health.
Graycie feeling much better these days
Today, Graycie is loving life. She’s being fostered with some other dogs in need at Granite Hills Animal Care. The team would love for her to have a permanent home with a family someday, but she’s still suffering from some continence issues due to her injury. In the meantime, she romps and plays with the other rescues, and clearly counts her blessings for being given a second chance at life.
