Finding good spots for litter boxes in your home can be a challenge, especially if you live in a small space or your home has multiple cats. One good solution to the problem is cat litter box furniture. These cleverly designed enclosures look like traditional furniture, such as nightstands, side tables, and entry benches, but conceal your cat’s litter box inside. Imagine being able to put a litter pan just about anywhere that’s convenient—without having it sticking out like a sore thumb.

Not sure where to start? Hop down to our explainer on what to consider when choosing cat litter box furniture, or dive right into our top picks.

Best Bench: Merry Products Litter Box Storage Bench

Merry bench

Merry Products Litter Box Storage Bench

This popular storage bench comes with a removable partition and a hidden outlet hole to help you customize for a wide range of litter box sizes.

Shop on ChewyShop on Amazon

Available in brown or white, this popular bench-style cat litter enclosure has a removable partition that helps you customize this piece to accommodate and conceal a wide range of litter boxes, including some electric ones. (A precut hole lets you more easily plug one in through the back of the bench.) Any leftover space can store your cat’s gear, and whatever the cat does inside is hidden—until you swing the doors open to handle the cleanup.

If you have a messy cat, consider covering the inside with waterproof liner during assembly. It’s also worth noting that especially muscly kitties might prefer to push their way out through the doors—a problem some pet parents have solved with extra magnets.

Key Features:

  • Made of engineered wood material
  • Side entrance can be installed on either end of the bench
  • Can hold up to 60 pounds

Dimensions: 37.40″ W x 21.26″ D x 22.64″ H

Best for Large Cats: Good Pet Stuff Cat Litter Planter

Litter Planter

Good Pet Stuff Cat Litter Planter

This litter box shaped like a planter is made of easy-to-clean polypropylene and fits even large cats.

Shop on ChewyShop on Amazon

Consider hiding your cat’s litter box among your plant collection with this durable pot. It’s surprisingly roomy at 19 by 19 inches at the base, which makes it a good choice for homes with multiple cats or large kitties. A filtered vent system controls dust and odor, and the top unscrews to make cleaning easy.

We recommend lining it to combat any odors that result from cats peeing against the inside walls, and we offer a caution to pet parents with plant-enthusiastic kitties—this artificial greenery likely won’t be an exception to your cat’s approach to indoor plants.

Key Features:

  • Simple to put together
  • Comes with florist moss and faux plant
  • Made of Polypropylene plastic material

Dimensions: 19″ L x 19″ W x 20″ H

Best Dog-Proof: Designer Pet Products Litter Box Enclosure

litter enclosure

Designer Pet Products Litter Box Enclosure

This attractive bench offers side access for your cat and convenient top access for you when it’s time to clean.

Shop on ChewyShop on Amazon

Available in standard or jumbo sizes, this bench-style enclosure keeps your cat’s litter box out of view and—thanks to an internal panel—safely away from all but the smallest dogs looking for a snack. When it’s time to clean, just lift the hinged top to access the litter box and the scoop in the adjacent compartment. If your cats have an extra-large litter pan, you can remove the internal anti-tracking panel to get extra floor space.

Key Features:

  • Choose from black, white, or espresso-colored finishes
  • Made from engineered wood
  • Fits standard large pan up to 18.5″ x 15.2″ with the panel installed or a larger size if the panel is removed

Dimensions: 20.6″ W x 29.1″ D x 20.8″ H (Standard) or 24.6″ W x 29.9″ D x 23.2″ H (Jumbo)

Best to Minimize Litter Tracking: MS Cat Litter Box

MS Cat Litter Box

This sleek piece features a handy removable litter tray, grated floor to reduce litter tracking, and a smooth retro look.

Shop on Amazon

This sleek enclosure with a clever design comes with its own slide-out litter box, and the entrance includes a grated floor that minimizes litter tracking when your cat exits the box. In addition to moss green, the box is available in Tiffany blue, pink, and white. It’s sized for small- to mid-size cats up to 11 pounds.

It’s worth noting, though, that cats who pee on the side of the litter box can bypass the tray, leading to leaks—so consider putting a waterproof liner down under the tray.

Key Features:

  • Comes with a matching litter scoop
  • Constructed with plastic material
  • Hidden storage compartment for waste bags

Dimensions: 24″ W x 15″ D x 17″ H

Best for Small Cats: Penn-Plax Cat Cabinet

Penn-Plax Cat Cabinet

Sturdy construction and modern design combine with a spacious, easy-to-clean interior—though the opening is on the narrow side.

Shop on Amazon

This sleek plywood litter box cover from Penn-Plax is a good fit for a modern home. Your cat enters and exits through the side opening, while you use the French doors for easy cleaning access. It’s offered in gray stained wood with red or white doors, as well as in all white. Because of the narrow opening, this design is best for small cats who are willing to hop up to get into the box.

Key Features:

  • Fits small, standard-sized litter boxes
  • Extra small holes on the side opposite of the entrance for ventilation
  • Reviewers note that it scratches easily

Dimensions: 22.75″ W x 16.5″ L x 30″ H

Best for Bathrooms: Merry Products Versatile Cat Litter Box Furniture

Merry Products Versatile Cat Litter Box Furniture

This litter enclosure offers shelf space, a towel bar, and an easy entrance for a kitty.

Shop on Chewy

Keep the litter box out of view in your home with this versatile fiberboard cat cabinet that works well as a bathroom cabinet. It comes in walnut, white, or espresso finishes to coordinate with your other furniture. It has a convenient (and optional) towel bar.

If you’re buying for a specific spot, keep an eye on which way the door hinges, since it’s not reversible.

Key Features:

  • Fits litter boxes up to 16″ x 18″
  • Requires a Phillips Screwdriver (not included) for assembly
  • Can hold up to 80 pounds

Dimensions: 19.09″ W x 20.51″ D x 25.04″ H

Best Mid-Century Modern Style: Staart Mid-Century Cat Litter Box Furniture

Staart Mid-Century Cat Litter Box Furniture

This spiffy retro cabinet does an impressive job of marrying fashion and function.

Find on Amazon

This very mid-century modern-style cabinet comes in white, pink, or brown wood veneer. There’s a round side entrance for your cat, ventilated siding, and plenty of room for your lava lamp on top. We love the “Mad Men” vibe and the waterproof coating. Setup is straightforward, and the doors can be arranged on either side to suit your setup.

Key Features:

  • Constructed with engineered wood
  • Ventilated on sides
  • Fits litter boxes up to 20″ x 21″

Dimensions: 22″ W x 25″ D x 22″ H

Best for Small Spaces: Penn-Plax Cat Litter Box Enclosure

Penn-Plax Cat Litter Box Enclosure

Here’s a space-saving design for mid-size litter boxes, with two entrances, a top drawer, and an inner shelf for supplies.

Shop on Amazon

If you don’t have a lot of room to spare, this new enclosure from Penn-Plax offers a space-saving vertical design with a top drawer for toys and grooming tools and an inner shelf for anything else (extra litter, bags, scoops, etc.). Your cat enjoys privacy in the lower compartment. Cat-shaped entrances on either side give you plenty of placement options.

Key Features:

  • Shutter-style door
  • Reviewers describe the material as lightweight
  • Available in white or gray colors

Dimensions: 20” W x 18.15” D x 37.7” H

Most Durable: Eco-Flex Cat Litter Box Furniture

Eco-flex cat loo

Eco-Flex Cat Litter Box Furniture

Made of non-toxic materials, this litter box side table promises to withstand odors and liquids and be easy to clean.

Shop on ChewyShop on Amazon

Available in two sizes, this sturdy end table-style design makes hiding your cat’s litter box a breeze. It’s made of eco-friendly materials with solid, double-walled construction—materials that won’t split or warp. The front flips down for easy cleaning with a damp cloth. Colors include grey, russet, antique white, and espresso.

Key Features:

  • Made with plastic-wood composite materials
  • For cats who miss the box, using a liner or puppy pad underneath the pan is recommended to prevent leaking
  • Fits litter boxes up to 19″ x 16″ (for standard) or 26″ x 20″ (for jumbo)

Dimensions: 18.5″ W x 23.6″ D x 22″ H (Standard) or 24″ H x 30″ D x 28.9″ (Jumbo)

Best Screen: PetFusion Litter Box Privacy Screen

PetFusion Cat Litter Box Privacy Screen

PetFusion Litter Box Privacy Screen

This bamboo-frame screen is a quick and easy way to hide the litter box without making kitty feel closed in.

Shop on ChewyShop on Amazon

Have a claustrophobic cat? Don’t want a full-blown cabinet? Consider this highly-rated free-standing privacy screen with a natural bamboo frame (available in two colors) instead. It’s a good option for cat parents who want to quickly hide a litter box from view when guests come over. Bonus: Kitties who avoid using a dark, closed-in box will be comfortable behind this translucent frame.

Key Features:

  • Allows cats multiple entry and exit points
  • Designed with bamboo and scratch-resistant semi-translucent panels
  • Two-way hinge allows you to arrange the screen into either a “Z” or “U” shape

Dimensions: 48″ W x 2″ D x 36″ H

Best Luxury: Modern Litter Box Cabinet

Modern Litter Box Cabinet

This attractive solid-spruce cabinet offers sturdy construction and a handsome exterior.

Shop on Etsy

While many other litter box cabinets are mass-produced, this one is handmade in Italy with solid spruce wood. Since it’s almost too beautiful to be cat litter box furniture, you could also consider using it to house the kitty bed. Choose from five stain finishes (black, walnut, dark chocolate, white, and clear) and consider an optional shelf.

Key Features:

  • Designed with a side entrance
  • Solid wood may be less urine-resistant than other materials
  • Fits litter boxes up to 12″ x 17″

Dimensions: 15.7″ W x 19.7″ D x 25″ H

Best Portable: Pet Gear Pro Pawty Litter Box Cover

Pro Pawty enclosure

Pet Gear Pro Pawty Litter Box Cover

This portable fabric enclosure unzips when it’s time to scoop the litter.

Shop on ChewyShop on Amazon

The Pro Pawty from Pet Gear offers a different twist on cat litter box furniture. A partitioned interior design guides your cat to the litter box area, and the fabric enclosure unzips so you can get to the box for cleaning. There is also an included mat to help reduce litter tracking. Travel frequently? The enclosure folds up, making it easy to pack and transport. Choose from espresso or soft charcoal colors.

Key Features:

  • No assembly required
  • Interior coating is liquid-resistant
  • Fits litter boxes up to 25” x 15”

Dimensions: 26″ W x 26″ D x 25.5″ H

Best for Extra-Large Litter Boxes: Litterbox Farmhouse-Style Credenza

Litterbox Farmhouse-Style Credenza

This tall credenza brings style to your home and gives your cat plenty of privacy—it’s even designed to fit extra-large electronic litter boxes.

Find on Litter-RobotShop on Amazon

This spacious credenza made of composite wood with an antiqued white farmhouse-style finish appeals to cats and their people. Tall enough for electronic litter boxes, it also includes a built-in USB hub on the side to make them easier to plug in. It’s also great for jumbo litter boxes or jumbo cats. There’s a small side entrance for cats and easy front access for humans cleaning up after them.

Key Features:

  • Compatible with the Litter-Robot (sold separately) or other litter boxes
  • Can hold a flat panel TV up to 50 pounds on the top
  • Weighs over 110 pounds once assembled

Dimensions: 43.2” W x 28.1” D x 33.1” H

How To Choose Cat Litter Box Furniture

There are a growing number of options for cat litter box furniture and enclosures, from lightweight, easy-to-move enclosures for households that want to reshuffle things often to solid benches and credenzas. Some come with their own litter boxes, while others house a litter box that you select. Your living space and your kitty’s litter box habits will help determine what kind of piece would work best. The good news is most of them are sturdy and easily washable.

If your cat sprays or sometimes goes outside the box, check to make sure that the cabinet you choose has interior materials that won’t absorb urine, or consider adding a liner when you’re building. And if your cat likes to kick litter, pick an enclosure roomy enough for a litter box with high walls or lids.

Don’t expect litter box furniture to carry the same loads as other furniture in your home. Even pieces marketed as benches or nightstands are generally not made to withstand the weight of heavy items like TVs—or people. And keep in mind that they’ll be housing active animals, so think twice about what you put on top of that cute cabinet. Books are great, vases—not so much. Once you figure out your cat’s needs (as well as your own), choosing the right piece of litter box furniture is a much easier process.

How We Chose
