We received a PetFusion Ultimate dog bed in exchange for an honest review.
Investing in a high-quality bed for your dog is worth it—but deciding on which, often pricey, bed fits your needs and lives up to its promises can be tricky. The PetFusion Ultimate is a popular memory foam dog bed that ticks all the boxes. It’s comfy, washable, sturdy, and water-resistant.
Orthopedic dog beds like the PetFusion Ultimate are supportive and durable for dogs of all types, but especially for older dogs with creakier joints or arthritis. Dogs with conditions like hip dysplasia can also benefit from a bed with true memory foam that won’t go flat after a month (more on this below).
So when the company sent us one to test out, we were eager to see if it would pass the test and put a few Rover office pups on the case. Here’s everything we discovered while reviewing the PetFusion Ultimate dog bed.
What the PetFusion Ultimate Dog Bed Offers: The Specs
The PetFusion Ultimate is one of the most popular orthopedic pet beds on the market—and we can see why. For starters, it offers four inches of firm and supportive memory foam—that’s real memory foam, which generally uses polyether polyol to give the foam both elasticity and viscosity. (Companies all have their own proprietary recipes and processes.) Real memory foam molds to your dog’s frame, offering support around their body. When your dog gets up, the material returns to its original shape.
In addition, the PetFusion Ultimate boasts a few other handy features, including the following:
- Bolsters that wrap around three sides of the bed, with a gap in front for easy entrance—an especially nice touch for older and arthritic pups who don’t want to have to clamber over high walls to get into bed
- Two layers of covers: one water-resistant inner liner and a machine-washable outer cover that’s easy to remove
- Tear-resistant materials designed to foil diggers
- A non-skid bottom
- Four available sizes: small (25 x 20 x 5.5 inches); large *36 x 28 x 9 inches); extra-large (44 x 34 x 10 inches); and jumbo (50 x 40 x 13 inches)
Putting the PetFusion Ultimate to the Test
Our reviewers loved how noticeably comfortable the PetFusion Ultimate bed looked right from the start. A few pet parents even tested it out, saying confidently that they would also use the bed if it were in human-size.
The testers especially appreciated the true memory foam—a rarity in the world of dog beds and one of the things that drives up the PetFusion Ultimate’s price. True memory foam has been found to reduce joint pain and support dog health, mobility, and energy.
Outer bolsters also added support, ideal for dogs who like an extra barrier between their bed and the rest of the world. We found the bolsters made a great headrest for all of the dogs in our office.
Our reviewers also liked how easy the bed was to keep clean and dry. One Rover test pup was recently diagnosed with Cushing’s disease and sometimes has accidents in her crate. Her human found the removable water-resistant liner made for super quick cleanup and appreciated that the outer cover is machine washable, too.
The wide range of sizes also accommodates more dogs than many other orthopedic options. One family of test pups included a Boston Terrier, a Dachshund, and a Pug that all liked to share one bed, and the large comfortably fit them all!
Final Review: Does Your Pup Need the PetFusion Ultimate Dog Bed?
Our Rover test pups got attached to the PetFusion Ultimate pretty quickly during our review. Overall, we were impressed with its quality and think it’s a particularly great choice if you’re looking for an orthopedic bed—or simply a high-quality, long-lasting bed—that comes in at a reasonable price point, especially for its value.
In particular, we think the PetFusion Ultimate would be a good fit for:
- Dogs who like to prop their heads onto the sides of their beds
- Senior or bigger-boned dogs who need extra comfort and joint support
- Sprawlers who like to sleep stretched out
- Pups who have ongoing accidents and need a water-resistant bed
- Moderate chewers and diggers
- Multi-dog households who like to share the same bed
The PetFusion Ultimate, however, might not be best suited for everyone, including:
- Burrowers and pups who sleep nose to tail and prefer donut-style beds
- Heavy chewers and diggers who need something more indestructible
- Pet parents who want a more budget-friendly option
