When Linda was diagnosed with lung cancer, she knew she was going to need help managing things during her treatment. So she packed up and moved from Fort Lauderdale to Rhode Island to live with her sister. Unfortunately, her four elderly Chihuahuas weren’t allowed to join her in her sister’s building.

The sisters started researching rescues for older dogs, and they hit upon Vintage Pet Rescue, not far away. VPR’s founder Kristen Peralta read their email and knew she had to step in to help.
The welcome wagon
Kristen took the four dogs—Scaredy, 16, Brewsy, 14, Suzy, 14, and Runty, 14—to be fostered during Linda’s cancer treatment Between treatments, Linda comes for visits, sitting right on the floor to receive the love and affection of her golden oldies. Other elderly residents join in on the lovefest too. That’s a lot of healing power!
Sweet snuggles
Kristen has made sure that Linda’s Chihuahua pack, affectionately known as “the doodles,” receive all the care and love they need so they can rejoin their mom when they all return to sunny Florida together.

Vintage Pet Rescue provides retirement and hospice care to elderly dogs. Kristen and husband Marc also share a love for bringing new life to vintage furniture! A match made in heaven.
