How do you share a bed with 8 dogs? You get a bigger bed! Chris and Mariesa Hughes were struggling to sleep and snuggle with their entire pack. The couple, who run a national senior dog rescue program, share their home with pit bulls, greyhounds, and a tiny Chihuahua named Mabel. Their non-profit, The Mr. Mo Project, helps get senior dogs out of shelters and into foster homes to live out their final days in comfort and peace.
Was there even a hint of a chance their pack would ever shrink? Not for a second. So the couple commissioned a local artisan to build a custom “megabed” that would sleep 10 comfortably and be a beautiful piece of furniture to boot.
Bed designed to share with senior dogs
It took six months to craft the 13 foot long by 8 feet wide megabed from cherry wood. The mattresses include a king size at the head of the bed, and a full size placed lengthwise at the foot of the bed for sprawl room. The paw print details carved into the banisters were taken from prints made from Michael, the artisan’s own senior dog.
