Meet Chopper the Biker Dog—a certified therapy dog unlike any you’ve ever seen.
Yes, he rides his own specially rigged motorcycle. And yes, he looks ridiculously cool doing it.
But more importantly, Chopper—and his owner, Mark Shaffer—visit hospitals, hospices, and charity events to bring the joy of a dog into peoples’ lives when they most need it.

As Mark describes it, “I’ve seen Chopper take somebody’s emotions and turn them around. If it gives them a little relief through that period, and if it adds some positive, it’s all worthwhile.”

“It’s not just him being a therapy dog,” Mark adds. “It’s his whole little character on the bike that adds to it.”

Chopper isn’t Mark’s first experience working with therapy dogs. In fact, Chopper is the protégé of Bandit, another friendly biker dog who brought smiles to a lot of faces in his day.

In between charity events throughout Southern California, Chopper still finds time to get into a little trouble. Here he is being pulled over by the San Diego police. In fairness, a dog riding a motorcycle? That’s bound to cause some rubbernecking.
And he’s winning over the hearts of the finest celebs at Comic Con, to boot. Check him out wowing Orlando Bloom:

These days, between social media and Chopper and Bandit’s longstanding reputation, Mark fields requests from all over the country. As a duo, they visit veterans, help facilitate police escorts for wounded officers, play with patients at Children’s Hospital, and go out of their way to share love and affection during peoples’ hardest hours.

Chopper brings enormous joy to everyone he meets—it’s his special power as a therapy dog, and he and his owner do their best to respond to as many requests as possible, all for the love of making a difference in peoples’ lives.
