To see what pet parents are naming their cats in 2024, we dug into Rover’s database of over a million pets and uncovered the most popular names and biggest trends.

Feline Famous: Celebrity Cat Names
Looking for cat names with star power? Celebrity names are on the rise this year, with Styles topping the trend—up a whopping 509%. Next popular is no surprise: mega popstar Taylor Swift is up 459% as a cat name.
Next is Ivana (up 309%), followed by Halsey (up 159%), Gaga (up 142%), and Jin (up 99%). The last two contenders are opposites in many ways except one: They know how to make headlines. It’s Cardi B (up 84%) and Elon (up 79%).
New celebrity cat names to the list include Eilish, Justin Timberlake, and Kelly Clarkson.
Will They or Won’t They?
Celebrity relationships are common tabloid fodder and these on again off again couples seem to have inspired cat parents this year. Renee (Rapp) is up 209% while Towa (Bird) made the list for the first time. Another Wicked pairing shows Ariana is up 76% with both Ethan (19%) and Slater (20%) also trending up.
More pairings include:
- Jeremy (Allen White) is up 71% while Rosalia is trending down -70%
- Hailey (Bieber) is up 47% and the name Justin Bieber was new to the list
- Benny (Blanco) is up by 5% while Selena Gomez made the list for the first time
- Olivia (Rodrigo) is up 7% and Louis (Partridge) is up 4%
- Sabrina (Carpenter) is up 4% but Barry (Kheogan) is down -2%
- Bradley (Cooper) and Gigi (Hadid) are both trending down -9% and -5% respectively
In Memorial
Every year, we say goodbye to beloved celebrities. Cat parents honor their memory through these trending names.
In memory of the late actress Shelley Duvall, the name Shelley is trending up 71%, while Shelley Dupaw appeared on the list for the first time.
Sport and fitness legends also inspired cat parents this year. The name Sid Vicious is trending up 59%, likely for the late pro wrestler of the same name. Simmons, likely after beloved fitness coach and television personality Richard Simmons, is trending up 9%. And the name Sika made the list for the first time this year, likely in honor of Sika Anoa’i, professional wrestling Hall of Famer.
Blockbuster Pet Names in 2024
One of the big questions of 2024 was Deadpool or Wolverine? Cat parents have answered. Deadpool comes out on top at 9% and Wolverine is down -10%.
Dune 2 was one of the most anticipated movies of 2024, so it’s no surprise that cat names inspired by the classic novel are on the rise. Irulan is up 109%, Chani is up 64%, and Dune and Gaius are both up 52%, Atreides and Stilgar are new to the list this year. Some of our favorite Dune-inspired names include Duke Paul Atreides, Rabban The Beast Harkonnen, and Timothee Chalameow.
Beetlejuice returned to theaters this year. But don’t worry—you can say these cat names three times. Adam is up 29% and Lydia is up 14%.

Sweet, salty, and straight up cheesy, these food-inspired cat names popped this year:

Food names are a perennial favorite for cat parents, and 2024 is no different. Topping the trend this year is Provolone, up 509%. Next is a three-way tie between Casserole, Twinkie, and Babybel which are all up 84%. Close on their heels is Burger, up 83% this year.
Next is Sorbet, up 59%, followed by Burrito (up 56%), and last but not least is Meringue, up 47% in 2024.
New to the list in 2024 are Granita, Raclette, and Whipped Cream. Honorable mentions include Tikka Meowsala, Cheeto Burrito Puffypants, Cornelius Cage Croissant, and Meatball Sauce.

2024’s biggest rap beef was Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake. When it comes to cat names, Kendrick is down -14% while Drake is up 11%. Kendrick La Meow is new to the list this year.
Totally Obsessed: Trending Heartthrob Cat Names
Cat parents are like, totally obsessed with these Hollywood heartthrobs—so much so they’re naming their cats after them. Topping the list are Posty (up 137%) and Post Malone (up 109%). Next up is Ryan (Gosling or Reynolds? Only their pet parents know) up 120%.
Caesar, inspired by Canadian musician Daniel Caesar, is trending up 40%, followed by Butler (Austin) of the Dune franchise, up 23%. Also trending up are names Cole (Sprouse), up 21%, and Jacob (Elordi), up 10%.
New bedroom poster-worthy names this year include Post Meowlone, Timothee Chalameow, Zac Efron, and Justin Bieber.
Trending Political Cat Names We’d Vote For
Here’s a safe political topic for the dinner table: cat names. This year pet parents have been giving their feline family members high-ranking names, with Mayor in the top spot and trending up 509%. Meanwhile, Mr. President is losing popularity to the tune of -66%.
Also on the list this year: The Governor, The Senator, and Congress. New political cat names this year include President Monroe, President Garfield, and Madame President Pickles.
Gold Medal Cat Names
The 2024 Summer Olympics took Paris (and the world) by storm this summer. Cat names inspired by Olympians are trending.
Mondo pole-vaults into first place this year, taking the gold by rising 92% in popularity. Fittingly, Silver takes second place, up 24%. And coming in with the bronze in cat name inspiration Henrick (Christiansen), up 22%.
The Norwegian swimmer became known as The Muffin Man of the Olympics thanks to his viral devotion to the chocolate muffins served in the Olympic Village. In his honor, we’re thrilled to announce that Muffin is up 14%. Other muffin-themed names include MissMuffin and Muffin Mcfluffin’.
