“Megan was AMAZING with my fur babies!! This was our first time having someone we didn’t personally know watch them and I cannot say enough good things about her. She kept in contact with me the whole time we were gone and sent pictures everyday. She even crocheted a bandana for our pup. She put our minds at ease while we were away. I would definitely use her again.”

“Betty loves Kaleigh so much and Kaleigh is a trooper for taking our girl out in the cold to make sure she gets her walks in!!! I have such peace of mind knowing she’s in good hands while we travel”

“Isabella was amazing!!! She was so sweet and my animals took to her right away. I have 2 dogs and 3 cats and the cats usually hide when people come over but after the first hour she was there I got a picture of the cats hanging out which says a lot! She sent pictures of everyone and kept me updated on when she was leaving and coming back. I highly recommend her!!! Her love for animals shows so much and coming from a crazy dog mom I would hire her again in a heartbeat.”

“Nancy was absolutely amazing!! She spent quality time with Millie and kept me posted throughout the sitting on how Millie was doing. She went above and beyond to accommodate our sitting needs and last minute booking. I was able to enjoy my trip with absolutely no worries!!! 🥰 Millie and I have definitely made a great friend and will ask Nancy to care for Millie many more times!! Thank you so much for loving our Millie as much as we do !! 💞”

About: I’ve taken care of my own dog since we got her 8 years ago. I’ve pet sat for many friends with dogs as small as miniature poodles to as big as labs. I can currently dog walk or pet sit anytime during week days. I am available during weekends for walking or pet sitting but overnight sitting needs to be scheduled in advance. :) I can do anything a client needs me to do in their home. This includes letting the pets outside, feeding them, playing with them, cleaning, etc. I do not offer to care for pets in my own home.

About: We have been around animals our whole lives. Adam grew up on a farm and Haley had dogs, cats, and birds. We currently have two golden retrievers and two cats. We are experienced in providing pet medication, as one of our cats takes daily medication. Haley works from home full time so she has a lot of flexibility and availability. Adam works full time in the office but has availability in the evenings. We have a fenced in back yard and two golden retrievers who love to play! We also have two cats that get along well with other animals.
“Natalie did a wonderful job caring for our three dogs. They were happy to see her when she arrived on time, and they enjoyed their time together. Natalie kept us updated with photos and videos, so we could see how well the dogs were being cared for. We’ll definitely have her watch our dogs again.”

About: I have had dogs since I was 7 years old. I’ve had big dogs and little dogs. I currently have 2 dogs of my own and I foster through Cross Your Paws Rescue. I love dogs more than most people. I have dog sat in my own house as well as family and friends homes. I promise to care for your dog(s) as if they were my own! I currently work full time but my husband works from home so someone is almost always at home with the dogs. When we aren’t home, it’s only for dinner or a quick grocery run. We don’t like leaving our dogs for more than a couple hours. I have a fenced in back yard and 2 dogs that love to play! I also sometimes have foster dogs in my home but they are always fully vaccinated and spayed/neutered and always are dog friendly.

“Ashlyn is trustworthy, responsible, and caring, with excellent communication skills. We had a trip planned well in advance, and a month before our departure, we rescued a shelter dog. We weren’t sure how our high-energy, 62-pound pup would adjust to a new routine, but Ashlyn handled him like a true professional. She kept us updated every step of the way and made sure he was showered with love. We won’t trust anyone else with our dog—Ashlyn is simply the best!”

“Savannah was wonderful with our sweet Lucy girl! She lives very close to us, within 10 minutes, so it was a convenient arrangement for everyone. She kept our puppy entertained and played with in our home and yard while we were away for a 3 day trip. Highly recommend her and look forward to having her sit for us again!”

“Brianna was great. We needed a sitter sooner than originally planned for a last minute trip. Brianna was quick to change her meet and greet to accommodate us. I could tell she was conscientious as she came prepared with great questions, Then we had a family emergency and she was very patient as we figured out the logistics of our trip. She sent a photo everyday. She was willing to send more, but I told her it wasn't necessary. She texted me good questions and I could tell she was attentive to our dog. She left the house neat and clean. I would highly recommend her!”

About: While I am currently unemployed and staying at my parents home, our family dog (Havanese) of 17 years recently passed away in February 2026. Now that my mother is retiring this summer, we wish to fill the empty home, and our combined newly gained free time, with some furry friends! For in-home boarding we will be a mother-son team with pretty wide open schedules to care for our furry guests, and will provide a great big house and yard in a great pet-friendly neighborhood for them to enjoy! I can also sit at your home if that is more convenient for you and the pet. My parents dog recently passed away at the age of 17. While I was living with them I helped to raise and care for her throughout the years. I thankfully and gratefully have always had dogs to care for throughout my entire life, from as a young child all the way to just recently with the passing of our most recent dog in February 2026. Your pet will have our full attention and their health and happiness will be the priority. We don't live very busy lives and have lots of extra free time now to care for them.
About: I've had animals since I was born. Mostly cats until I moved out on my own 9 years ago. Now I have 3 love bugs of dogs and 4 kitties! I've fostered dozens of cats and have been pet sitting since I was a teen. I love ALL animals :) I keep things low-stress: fresh water, playtime, belly rubs, and plenty of pics so you don’t miss a second. Whether you need a quick potty break or a week-long house sit, I’ll treat your furbaby like family. I’d love to meet your pets!! I work part time as a school bus driver. I am home for several hours throughout the day and home most evenings as well as weekends. I have a large home if day care or boarding is what you are seeking. I do have 3 dogs that are all great with other dogs. I have cats but they live on their own floor. I live on some land but I do not have a fenced yard but I do have leads if the pup isn't up for a full walk. I love a good routine. I will do my best to incorporate your schedule into mine. We're very flexible.

FAQs for House Sitting - Van Meter
Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of June 2026, there are 1,252 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Van Meter. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Van Meter walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Van Meter maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Van Meter choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Van Meter. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 95% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 90% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
