“I can't say enough great things about both of my pups experience w/ Paula. I was so nervous leaving my Jack w/ anyone, as he is quite the bundle of energy. My older sweet girl (Shephard mix) can be timid and nervous, especially around other dogs. They both took to Paula instantly and came home safe, smiling, and exhausted from all the exercise they had between Paula's backyard setup and their pack of playmates. Paula is a great communicator, and sent plenty of pictures and updates so that I never had to worry about how they were doing. This stay allowed me to travel to my daughter on very short notice, and I will be reaching out to Paula first for any travel or boarding needs in the future.”

“Wonderful experience ! Heather and her family were very welcoming and accommodating. They were flexible and extended the stay for our dogs when we needed to stay an extra day. The dogs were very happy and enjoyed playing with her little girls. I will definitely request Heather when we board our pups.”

“Damacia is an amazing sitter for my dog, Jazzy! She kept me updated with pictures and made sure Jazzy was well cared for the entire time. From the moment I met her at drop-off, she was so welcoming and kind. I also had a medical emergency at the airport and had to change my flight at the last minute. Danika was incredibly accommodating and allowed Jazzy to stay an extra night without hesitation. She responded quickly with genuine care and concern, which meant so much to me during a stressful situation. I truly appreciate her flexibility, professionalism, and kindness. I’ll definitely be booking with her again!”

“Radka and her family were very loving and caring towards our puppy. Our puppy was so happy in their care. I'm very appreciative that Radka shared pics every few hours. We're so happy we found her. I'm leaving my puppy with her every time I have to go out of town.”

“My dog had a great stay with Laura! She was very kind and I really appreciated how attentive she was to my dog’s schedule. Will definitely use Laura’s services again in the future!”

“Laura and her family do an excellent job with Nacho. I am comfortable leaving him in their care as I know they will treat him no different than as a member of their family. I'm sure he misses us, but he also looks forward to boarding at their house so I am not worried at all that he will be homesick.”

About: Over the past couple of years, I’ve had the joy of caring for family and friends dogs when needed, giving their dogs a loving home away from home. I work from home so I have flexibility of time and a lot of love to give to your furry friend! Available for boarding any day of the week. My fenced-in back yard offers a safe environment for fresh air, fun, and exercise. Dogs allowed on furniture. I have a two year old lab who loves other dogs! I can also crate if needed.
“Joy is one of the best sitters you can find for your pet. She has excellent communication, sends pictures and updates through the time that your pet is with her. She is the only sitter that we will consider using for our dog.”

About: I have my associates degree in animal sciences and have been tending to animals of all kinds since I was very young. I have experience with farms along with typical house pets. I am a stay at home mom who loves to spend her days loving on animals and enjoying nature. We go on walks and enjoy each others company! I have 1 dog at home, which can be kept separate from other pets. I have an indoor/ outdoor cat. I have an extra large crate for those in need. I have a spacious yard, and leashes for those who need them.
“Jennifer is awesome. We have a German short-haired pointer, and he is very high energy and is a handful. But Jennifer does so well with him and Kennon has grown close with her (and perhaps claimed her house as his). Going to keep using Jennifer. Whenever taking trips I have no worries that our pup is in good hands.”

“Christina is an awesome dog sitter! Super nice and caring. She kept us in the loop with updates, pics, and videos while we were away. The backyard is a game-changer, especially for our lively Aussie and big Old English Sheepdog. Thumbs up for keeping our pups happy! And we will definitely book with her again! 🐾”

“We needed to find a boarding place for our 9-year old cockapoo on short notice. Fortunately we found Andrea through Rover. Andrea had a meet and greet with us and asked very thorough questions about the habits and needs of our dog, and our care instructions. She sent us our dog’s pictures during the stay and let us know everything is good. We are very happy with Andrea and will definitely use her service again in the future.”

“I had the pleasure of leaving my puppy with Shanisse and Kim for 1 week while I went away. I can't lie leaving my puppy that long was extremely hard for me. She sent me pictures and videos of Coco multiple times of the day. They have a really big closed in backyard and she seemed to love running around in it. As far as Coco being in the she house she was in her own space that was sort of "fenced" in with appropriate pet friendly gates. She had her own "condo" space. They did have one dog and a cat that coco got along with but I do not believe they had much interaction. I left food, toys and instructions that I do believe they followed. The communication was very good with Shanisse and Kim. I did not have much communication with Shanisse in person but more with Kim. They seem to work well together one for caring for the pets and one for the online support. Overall my experience was very good and I will be booking again. For reference my puppy is a cavapoo and is an out 15lbs. She did very well in their home. The posting says dogs allowed on furniture but I am not sure if she was in their furniture or not because I left her own bedding and she had her own little condo.”

“Doris was absolutely amazing! She took such great care of my fur baby, and it was clear he adored her. She is kind, attentive, thorough, and very professional. She kept me updated throughout my time away, which gave me so much peace of mind. I will definitely be booking with her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable and caring sitter.”

“Caitlyn and Sam were great with Toffee! Appreciate the pics, and would totally use them again as pet sitters if they are good with having Toffee over again!”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Trenholm home-away-from-home, packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Trenholm.
<b>Tip:</b> You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Trenholm sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
