Train the dog infront of you!
I have been working with and raising dogs for over 6 years. I have raised and trained 6 different personal dogs to have the obedience to compete in various sports, herding and be well mannered family members when they are not competing. Your dog dosent have to be a competitor to have great home skills.

I follow LIMA, Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive, but do believe some dogs may not find cookies and play as valuable as the thing they want to do, thats where balanced comes into play. I believe in paying a dog for their good efforts and to teach new behaviors, but also believe in certain circumstances that correction may have to be used also. There is no one size fits all in training and training the dog infront of us is the fairest to the animal.
