Building Better Bonds and Behavior
Hey, I’m Steve—Hillsboro‑based dog nerd, former PetSmart Dog Trainer, and the guy who believes “calm is a skill, not a personality trait.” Over the last four years (2 in a busy retail training program, 2 running my own sessions), I’ve helped everything from turbocharged puppies to “stubborn” seniors learn to relax, focus, and make good choices—without yanking, yelling, or using gadgets that trade short‑term obedience for long‑term trust.

What to expect
Consultation
We'll start by discussing your goals and your dog's behavior. I'll observe how your dog interacts with you to understand their behavior better. Please bring your dog on a non-retractable leash and a few treats. After the consultation, we'll review schedules to find the best time and frequency for your training sessions. Consultation time = up to 45 minutes *Please note default training place will be at my home unless otherwise discussed.
Sessions
*Please note default training place will be at my home unless otherwise discussed. Of course depending on what you are working towards other locations may be appropriate.* **Session time = up to 30 minutes. Dogs learn best in short, focused bursts before they get tired. This way, both you and your dog stay engaged and get the most out of every session. My goal is to ensure you can replicate the training at home. At the end of each session, I'll assign 1 to 3 skills for you to work on, with daily practice expected to take 5 to 20 minutes, depending on the skill.
More info
I believe in strengthening the relationship between dogs and their humans, which leads to better behavior. My approach emphasizes patience, communication, and choice. I start with positive reinforcement and follow the Lima model. Using the least intrusive minimally aversive methods.
