Building Joyful Partnerships

I am a Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainer Professional graduate (KPA-CTP), certified service dog trainer (Atlas CT), and Family Dog Mediator (FDM). Dog training is an unregulated industry, so it is important to me to maintain credentials that demonstrate my commitment to best practices. I am a former attorney who is especially passionate about supporting both ends of the leash by integrating my mediation, special education, and dog training knowledge. I offer active listening and problem-solving to the human while also emphasizing the welfare of the dogs in our care.

What to expect

Consultation

All one-on-one sessions are held via Zoom video-conference. This means that you will need a computer, a camera, and a stable internet connection. Ideally, you will be in a relatively distraction-free environment, and have a way of demonstrating what you are working on with your dog in real time. You can also send me short video clips of your training sessions or to show me what you are observing in daily life, and we will review and discuss them during our Zoom call.

Sessions

Typically in your home

In your first training session, we will develop a plan that is specifically tailored to your needs. I will create a summary of that discussion, as well as a personalized training plan. Follow-up training sessions will begin by reviewing your progress, troubleshooting areas that need improvement, and fine-tuning your training plan to ensure that you have the tools you need to succeed as you work on behaviors between sessions.

Positive Reinforcement

I am a certified dog trainer (KPA-CTP, Atlas-CT, FDM) with a strong background in science-based positive reinforcement training. My philosophy is that dog training should be enjoyable for both you and your dog: Whether you are training a puppy, a companion dog, or a working dog, I strive to create a strong bond between handler and animal. My training is intended to be accessible from your living room, on the road, or wherever you are most comfortable. I can make modifications based on each client's individual needs, and always invite dialogue about what works best for you and your dog.

Availability

I'm currently on Rover part-time, so I'll be available to train most weekday afternoons and evenings, as well as on Saturday afternoons. If possible, I like to train later in the day, as I am not an early riser - and neither are my three dogs!
