Learn to understand your dog.

I love dogs, and have a passion for helping their families communicate well with them. The more I learn about dogs, the more I learn how relevant all my past work in education, mental health and health care helps me now. Dogs go through the same stages of development we do, they have the same trauma responses we do, their emotions are deep. This knowledge helps me to help you to understand and communicate with your dog. I am a trained listener, so when you have an issue with your dog I will truly listen to you. I keep learning fun making it a great bonding time.

What to expect

Consultation

During the consultation I will ask you about what you are looking for from training. I will ask questions about your dog such as his/her age, how long you have had him/her, do you have other dogs… I will tell you a little about how I train, see if you have any questions for me. Then we will decide together if we think we would be a good team for your dog.

Sessions

Typically in your home

I have to be honest, I don’t train your dog, you do. You will be there day in and day out. I will only be there once a week. I will share my knowledge and show you how to do things. I will share tips on how to communicate with your dog that will help with bonding with your dog as well as training your dog. I will probably fall in love with your dog, but you get to keep your dog, and the success will be all yours! We will spend an hour training your dog. The rest of the week you will spend not more than 15 min. a day working on training, broken into a few min. at a time to keep training fun.

Positive Reinforcement

I use positive reinforcement training. Dogs (and people) will repeat what works for them, and not do what doesn’t. When we reinforce a wanted behavior with a favorite treat, our dog wants to do it again. That is the logic behind positive reinforcement. We don’t have to treat forever, we gradually fade the treats out until they get a treat once in a while.
