have fun with the fundamentals!
Much of the fun of training is the process of discovering our dogs’ needs and figuring out creative ways to meet them. Like people, each dog is an individual with a distinct personality and life history that powerfully shapes the way they act. I believe that meeting the desires and instinctive drives of our four-legged friends is the most compassionate and effective way to teach them emotional regulation -- a skill that is absolutely essential for dogs that tend to be anxious, fearful, or reactive in given environments.

What to expect
Consultation
Before our first session, I ask that you set up a complimentary virtual consultation to discuss your dog's behavior history and training goals. These meetings are meant to be a space where I can gather more information about you and your dog's needs, and where you can learn more about my approach to training and decide whether you'd like to move forward. Having a sense of what you hope to get out of training and what you'd like to know about me is often helpful for these calls, but by no means necessary to connect!
Sessions
Generally, we start with a check in, followed by talking through and practicing a few exercises. To ensure that your dog doesn't become bored or frustrated, we keep each "round" of training short and sweet, usually giving the dog a play, rest, or cuddle break every 3-5 minutes. I recommend having the following items ready before each session: water, training treats (multiple types and chopped into tiny pieces), toys, a towel, front-clip harness, and fixed length leash. I also offer online video sessions at a discounted rate – please ask me for more information if you are interested.

Availability
I am available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays as well as weekends. I generally prefer to meet between 10 am and 6 pm, but I also try my best to be flexible around my client's schedules. I can meet either at your home or in a public space, though I do request that our first meeting be in-home to ensure a more controlled environment in the space your dog is most comfortable. Before agreeing to meet in public spaces, we will need to take potential triggers and distractions into account to properly set your dog up for success.
