What to expect
Consultation
During your consultation, we’ll talk about your pet(s) background, what you know about their medical and behavioral history, any training experience you have and that your pet has, and what behaviors you are looking to change or have your pet learn. We’ll also go over your daily routine with your pet and what your home setting and household is like, what your goals for training are, and the environmental context surrounding any behavior concerns you may have with your pet.
Sessions
Please make sure to have 300+ small training treats or kibble ready for our session! I will take some time to get to know your pet in our first session before we delve into your training goals. We’ll start with me demonstrating basic steps towards the desired behaviors, then having you practice the examples I’ve shown. I will give you homework assignments to practice with your pet for 5-15 minutes each day between our sessions - I’m training you to train your pet, not just training your pet! As the pet parent you play the most key role in teaching your pet what you want them to learn.
More info
Force-free training uses science-based, positive reinforcement techniques to reward your pet when they do something you want in order to make the behavior more likely to occur again. I will never recommend the use of prong, choke, or shock collars, nor any other tool meant to cause pain or discomfort to your pet in order to change their behavior. We will focus on setting your pet up for success in their environment, managing the world around them, and giving them the skills to choose a desired behavior instead of punishing a ‘problematic’ behavior.
