What to expect

Consultation

Before we begin training, a personalized consultation can help me get to know you and your dog. During this time, I’ll gather helpful background information such as your dog’s behavior, your training goals, and any previous training experiences you’ve had together. To make our first lesson as productive as possible, I’ll also send a short pre-session form for you to fill out beforehand. This helps me tailor our training plan to your dog’s unique needs right from the start.

Sessions

Typically in your home

I offer flexible training sessions and can meet wherever your dog is most comfortable, as long as it’s nearby and dog-friendly. First lessons are usually held at home to build trust and focus. We’ll cover positive reinforcement basics, set goals, and work on specific behaviors. I’ll demonstrate each skill, guide you through practice, and provide handouts for homework. Please share any food sensitivities so I can bring appropriate treats!

Positive Reinforcement

As a certified trainer, it is important to me to follow the most scientifically supported methods. I use positive reinforcement and never use force in my training. I will always opt to find the least intrusive approach to achieve a successful outcome. Rewarding behaviors I want to see more of leads to an increase in wanted behaviors and a decrease in unwanted behaviors. Using positive reinforcement also allows me to help people better understand and build a better relationship with their dog. My goal as a trainer is to teach you how to train, so you can better train your dog!

Availability

I am available for training Saturdays and Sundays. I work full time as a vet assistant and am also in school to become a registered veterinary technician. I have a day off during the week as well, but that has been known to change. If anyone would like a session outside of my weekend hours, I may be able to accommodate a day during the week. Just reach out and ask!
