Trainer specialized in shelter dogs
I have done many trainings over the years mostly focused on shelter dogs. Since 2021, I have been a behavior and training volunteer at the shelter working with difficult to adopt dogs on learning manners to make them more adoptable. Through the shelter, I have been trained by them as well as Fear Free certified for shelters, and Shelter Playgroup Alliance dog trainings. I'm most familiar with fearful and reactive dogs, as well as those with a lot of energy. My own dog came from a shelter and is leash reactive and fearful, so I understand the stress and overwhelm that can come with it.

Consultation
I want to get to know you and your dog. Whether online or in person, I would like to know what behavior you'd like to focus on, and the situation surrounding what is going on. This includes thing like time of day, energy levels of the dog, triggers, etc. I will also ask you to do some testing before our first session on treat preferences so we can be ready for a productive session.
Sessions
In our first session, we will do a quick recap on what our objectives are and jump into the action. We will start with my observing how you normally handle the situation (if we can) and go from there. Ahead of the training I will ask you to test out treats your pup will work for and have them available. Ideally you will have a treat pouch or way to hands-free have them with you and a clicker or ready to use the word Yes.
More info
I have been working with and training shelter dogs for years and know no matter the dog, positive reinforcement works. I prefer clicker training or using the word yes as a marker. While you may not think your dog is food motivated, that just means we haven't found the right treat yet.
