R+ Passionate Canine Advocate!

My current role in Special Education, being Registered Behavior Technician utilizing ABA principles, and B.S. in Chemistry all combined with being a Certified Dog Trainer reflects my passion for behavioral (and general) science with my love for animals! My unique career path reflects my commitment to helping others—whether they’re students in the classroom or four-legged companions in training. My focus on creating a positive and loving environment ensures that pets feel comfortable and happy while in my care!

What to expect

Consultation

During a consultation, I like to get to know the dog and the owner! I typically will focus on talking to the owner to start and observe the dog behavior in a natural setting. This is where I would ask about the dogs likes and dislikes, routines, behavior for modification, and anything deemed necessary to the meet! I would observe the dogs behavior, responses to different stimuli to observe temperament, truly targeting the behavior for modification and the steps to get the pup there!

Sessions

Typically in your home

During a typical training session, clients can expect a personalized approach, tailored to their pups needs. I use positive reinforcement methods, as outlined. Clients may be asked to participate in the training process, such as practicing commands at home between sessions; between sessions, clients can positively reinforce the training by practicing with their dog and maintaining consistency with the techniques learned during the sessions. This helps build a strong foundation for their dog's behavior, generalizing it across multiple different stimuli, and from different people.

Positive Reinforcement

I use positive reinforcement training methods, which involve rewarding good behavior to encourage recurrence. This method focuses on reinforcing desired behaviors with treats, praise, or toys (depending on the preferred reinforcers) creating a positive learning experience for the pups! It helps build a strong bond between the dog and the trainer while effectively teaching new behaviors or commands. Once the behavior has been reinforced and the behavior is learned, I shift reinforcement schedules to intermittent (every 3rd or so time the desired behavior is displayed).
