Working towards a better life!
I started off training horses and quickly found my love for dog training afterwards. Oddly enough, horses and dogs are trained the same! I pride myself in my ability to stay cool, calm and collected as I feel that is the best way to help any excitement in any situation. I love the challenge of a dog that likes a challenge. I like to make a list of behaviors that we don’t want and follow that with a list of obedience skills that will fix each one. With guidance and fear free training, we can teach anything! I’m not fearful of working with “scary” dogs. Whatever that definition is for you!

Consultation
During your free consultation I’ll ask lots of questions in regards to what you are looking for in a trainer. How does my personality, your personality and your dog’s personality mix? What behaviors are you having difficulties with? What training tools do you already use or wish you could use? How much time are you willing/able to commit to each day for training? We’ll come up with a list of goals you have and outline our first training session. I’ll also request that you inform me of any aggressive or fearful behaviors your dog may have and discuss any tools we may need for that.
Sessions
What did we talk about and what were you able to work on? I like the owner to have the dog exercised to some capacity prior to a training session as it makes it much easier for the dog to learn. I like to model the behavior you’re looking for and then have you imitate it. The goal is for your dog to feel confident knowing what we are asking of it and you feel confident in your ability to deliver the cue or command. I’ll assign some homework with given time frames of how long to work on each task and may involve working on specific cues or other behavior shaping skills.

My training philosophy is give respect, get respect. Every dog is different just like each owner differs. It’s important to me to find what you are wanting from your dog and help you to achieve that in the easiest way possible. I am an avid studier of animal behavior because I feel it is so important to understand how to communicate with your dog, but also to understand how they communicate with you! If the proper communication channels are used, mutual respect is easily gained and maintained!
