Personalized Training to Empower

I have a unique training background. My first "puppy" training was part of a university research grant raising orphaned anteaters to independent life in the jungles of Costa Rica. Later, after graduating Stanford, my Uncle in NYC asked me to train his new puppy Topaz. Topaz and I shared pee filled elevator rides from the 34th floor apartment to the street and joyous puppy play dates downtown. I trained her on cues like sit, down, and come in the hotel lobby and taught her leash manners walking in central park. I moved back home to Wimberley, got formally certified, and been dog training since.

What to expect

Consultation

During a consultation, we will discuss your dogs’ behavior, your training goals, and formulate a plan for how to achieve your goals. I typically ask to observe your interactions with your dog, so I can see their behaviors and body language firsthand. This helps me identify behavior patterns we can address and generate a plan tailored to your dogs needs.

Sessions

Typically in your home

Training sessions are designed to empower you with knowledge and skills. A session often consists of guided hands-on training exercises where I demonstrate an activity with your dog, then ask for you to repeat it, correcting form if needed. Between sessions, clients typically practice the hands-on training we did together with their dog. Depending on how easy your dog is doing the exercises, I provide progressions or regressions - slightly advanced or lower difficulty versions. That way, we're always making steady progress towards your goals.

Positive Reinforcement

1. Positive reinforcement: Reward behaviors we want with treats and affirmation, while redirecting problematic ones. I do NOT tell dogs "no" or punish them for bad behavior. 2. Small steps, BIG goals: To accomplish a big behavior goal, I take appropriately sized steps with your pup towards that goal. If we move too slow or quickly, the dog's learning will stagnate or they won't retain the knowledge. 3. Empower pet owners: Involve owners in every step of the process, ensure they know the how and why behind their dog's training, and keep them accountable with fun and easy homework.
