Hope for hard dogs.

In addition to being a Certified Canine Behavior Consultant I am also the owner of a dog with behavior problems. I understand how stressful this life can be. (Ask me about crying on walks!) My combination of education and personal experience allows me to empathize and support both ends of the leash with a training plan that makes sense for real life while still being positive and science backed.

Consultation

During the consultation I observe your dog and learn from you. We discuss a wide range of topics such as your lifestyle, goals, daily struggles, or your dog’s favorite napping spot. With this holistic picture of your lives I can put together the right plan and skill set to help you and your dog. As we wrap up the consultation you will receive guidance on reducing immediate stress in your life and a general training plan. Afterwards you will receive a behavior summary and comprehensive training plan.

Sessions

Typically in your home

The first lesson typically centers on developing necessary skills to turn you and your dog into the ultimate training team. Next we build foundation skills like Sit. However, these skills alone don’t resolve issues like fear or biting. Your dog has to actually perform these alternative behaviors. As lessons progress we guide your dog through using these skills in increasingly challenging and realistic lessons. As these new patterns of behavior become normal you and your dog navigate life with more comfort and ease.

Positive Reinforcement

My training approach is grounded in behavior science and empathy. We all deserve kindness, compassion, and support in an already stressful world. Many of our dogs' “problem” behaviors stem from a mismatch between their inner world and the world we live in. Like many of us our dogs live in a stressful and confusing world that is sometimes just too damn much to handle. I teach people to understand their dog so we can address the root cause of the behavior. I teach people how to communicate with and reinforce their dog so we can teach them coping skills or tell them what to do instead.
