Patient, enthusiastic, adaptable!

I am remarkably patient with dogs, a vital trait for good dog trainers. Every dog I have worked with has absolutely loved his/her sessions. With my training style, anyone can be a trainer, any dog can be trained, and every dog feels like a genius. My ultimate goal in dog training is to teach both the dog and the human, so that future sessions can be lead by the family. I do not deal with aggressive or unpredictable dogs yet. My first priority is the dog's success and happiness; pay-as-you-can is available for anyone who needs it.

What to expect

Consultation

At a consultation, I will meet you and get a feel for what you hope to achieve, as well as meet the dog and get a good idea of his/her personality and needs. By the end, I hope to have enough information to come up with a coherent training plan, including reward type, session length, stimulus to avoid, and where to start. This is a great time to discuss what is limiting for you and your dog, where you would like to carry out training sessions, and what you expect from working with me. Please make a list of any and all questions/concerns ahead of time to bring up during the consultation.

Sessions

Typically in your home

I don't have a "typical session" as every dog is very different, and every family has different needs. For some dogs, the first session could be just breaking the dog out of his/her shell so that future sessions can be smooth and comfortable for everyone. For others, the first session could also be the last, blasting through training like lightning. I am willing to adjust prices based on how much can actually be accomplished in each session.

Positive Reinforcement

I use clicker training and adjacent methods, which reward the dog for trying, and which work remarkably fast. Clicker training has been used for zoo animals, dogs, cats, birds, horses, and even humans at times. It uses no punishment or corrections and relies entirely on the dogs willingness to participate and enjoyment of the activity. It truly feels like magic.
