Building bonds, understanding & fun
I believe that my many years as a community college instructor contribute to my success as a veteran dog trainer. Developing training plans tailored to the individual and being able to positively communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals definitely strengthen and enhance the training experience for the pet parents and the dogs themselves. In addition, as a lifelong pet parent, I love working with and communicating with dogs and helping them to live their best lives.

Consultation
For the initial consultation, please provide a current copy of your pet's vaccinations. The initial meeting is usually 45-60 minutes. I will gather information on your dog's medical & social history, personality, behaviors, and any concerns/questions you may have. I will present information on positive reinforcement training, and how to train in that method. From this information I gather in this session, I will develop a training plan, which we will begin the next session we meet. I will provide worksheets/homework during our training sessions for you to take notes or use for reference.
Sessions
Needed for each session: collar/harness (please no choke chains, prong collars), a 6 foot leash (not retractable), training treats, treat pouch, questions for me. Each session begins with a short check-in to see how your practice has progressed. I will help to clarify any questions, give guidance, and will check your dog's progress. We then focus on a new behavior. I will explain that topic, demonstrate with your dog, then you will work on it. Each session builds on past behaviors You will have homework sheets to take home for practice. The last few minutes of each session will be playtime!
More info
I only use positive reinforcement training, using cues and sometimes clickers, but always using positive reinforcement (praise, pets, treats, etc.) My training philosophy and strategies are to ENABLE pet parents to RECOGNIZE, become FAMILIAR with and UNDERSTAND their dog and his/her behaviors so as to enhance communication and training. The pet parents and pet's family are always an integral part of the training process. Communication and consistency are key components for successful training.

Availability
I am retired, so my schedule is very flexible, and I have a lot of time to devote to your pets! Training is most successful when done on a regular schedule. If your dog has not had formal training, I would highly recommend a 6 week basic puppy or adult class. We can also address specific behaviors in a shorter group of classes.
