I can teach you to SEE your dog.

Many trainers focus solely on the mechanical skills of teaching a dog basic obedience or trying to fix problem behaviors without dealing with the underlying reason for what gave rise to the behavior in the first place, often using the same approach to each dog. My approach to training and behavior modification is fluid and tailored to each dog as an individual and I am always seeking better ways to understand, assess and improve what I do with and for dogs.

What to expect

Consultation

During the initial consultation, we will talk about your goals for your dog, the dog's training, medical and social history, and I will observe your dog both as an individual and your relationship with them. Based on the information gathered, we will decide the training plan moving forward.

Sessions

Typically in your home

In a typical session, we will do short, positive and focused exercises based on the training plan that we discussed during the consultation. We will work on handler mechanics to make sure that the communication between you and your dog is clear, and I will guide you through what your dog is trying to communicate to you with their body language. Each session will build on the previous one, and I will leave you clear instructions on things to work on between sessions. You should always bring lots of small pea-sized extra tasty treats to each session.

Positive Reinforcement

I am committed to prioritizing training methods that put each dogs’ emotional health and well-being first. I do not believe in suppressing behavior out of pain or fear. Using these methods will often have a negative effect on the relationship between the human and the dog. By rewarding the good, instead of punishing the bad creates a better, more lasting outcome and a stronger relationship with your dog, which, in turn, will make the dog more eager to do what is asked of them.
