Certified Dog Trainer & Behaviorist

2 hour initial session, follow-up 90-minute sessions. My training approach goes beyond surface-level issues by focusing on the whole dog to address the root of behaviors. I consider body language, routine, environment, exercise, mental stimulation, nutrition, social history, and family dynamics, because real change happens when all factors are addressed. Since it’s tough to remember every detail from each session, I provide detailed notes with purchase links, training reminders, a homework list, and clear instructions developed over hundreds of hours.

What to expect

Consultation

During a phone consult, I’ll get background information and create a plan for tackling these training items. We'll cover how sessions will be structured and what support you can expect from me. In-person consults are an 2-hour initial training session; if I'm there, we might as well start addressing your goals right away! We’ll discuss your dog’s background and desired outcomes to ensure we prioritize the right training approach. Then we get right to training (more below)! The number of sessions recommended after the first session depends on your goals, experience, and your dog’s response.

Sessions

Typically in your home

Initial sessions are 2 hours, follow-up sessions are 90 minutes. Typically I will explain and demonstrate a concept, then most of the session is spent coaching you to work on your timing, markers, rewards, etc. Most of the training happens when I’m not there, so I’m coaching you to be a better trainer! Afterward, you’ll receive notes with training tips, homework, and purchase recommendations.

Positive Reinforcement

Lay the Perfect Foundation for Training Success For your dog to thrive in training, their basic needs must be met first. A healthy dog with regular exercise and mental stimulation is more likely to absorb new skills. Understand Your Dog's "Why" Successful training begins with understanding the reason behind your dog’s behavior. Identifying the root cause lets us tailor techniques for maximum impact. Focus on Positive Alternatives Instead of focusing on what NOT to do, I'll guide you in teaching your dog what they SHOULD do.
