Fun and reward based training!
While I am newly certified as a professional dog trainer, I have been training dogs in my personal life for several years. I also have a Masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and worked as a Behavior Analyst for 5 years. ABA and modern dog training share the same scientific foundation and go hand in hand! This includes applying positive reinforcement (rewards following behavior), breaking down complex behaviors into small, achievable steps, and modifying the environment to create the behaviors we want to see.

What to expect
Consultation
During a consultation, we will discuss your dog's current behaviors and what skills you'd like to prioritize in training. I will also ask about what you've tried on your own in training your dog, including what has worked and what hasn't! I'd also like to observe your dog's behaviors to get a better understanding of their energy levels, motivation and how they interact with you in and outside of the home. The number of sessions may vary depending on the number of goals and how quickly your dog masters their training. This will always be an open conversation and can be adjusted over time!
Sessions
In our first session, we will briefly discuss what we will be working on, then we are going to dive right in! I will demonstrate how to elicit the desired behavior and reward accordingly several times to ensure we're on the same page - then it's your turn! I'll walk you through each step in the training process to ensure that you are confident in performing these steps on your own. In between sessions, you'll have some "homework" to practice these training strategies on your own. In our next session, we will go over how your dog is doing and make any adjustments as needed.
More info
I'm all about rewarding dogs for the behavior we want to see, NOT punishing them for the ones we don't! The key so successful training is your dog's motivation! We will use that motivation to guide your dog into the behavior we want to see, provide the reward, attach the cue (word) and repeat! Training requires patience and repetition, and I will work through these steps until your dog is performing the behavior fluently. For more complex behaviors, we will break things down into small steps to work up to what we want to achieve! The training process will be fun for you, me and your pup!

Availability
Dogs have become my full time job! I currently work Monday - Friday as a dog sitter/walker, but have plenty of availability in the mornings and evenings M-F, as most of my current visits are mid-day (around lunchtime). I am extremely flexible and happy to work around your schedule! Weekends are available at request, but not guaranteed as I am occasionally out of town. However, I can be available by call at anytime if you have questions or concerns regarding your dog and the training process.
