“Amazing as always!! I couldn’t recommend Carrington enough for any service you might need. She stayed at our house while we went out of town for a week and kept in constant communication with us the entire time, not to mention the amazing photos she takes!! Our house was so clean when we got home and it was such a relief to know we could trust our pups were in good hands while we were away!”

“Christina is awesome! She took great care of our babies and house while we were out of town for 2 weeks. She sent lots of pictures and left the house incredibly clean when we got back!”

“Kay did a wonderful job with my nervous and needy dogs. She sent me lots of pictures and discussed any possible needs. I have used rover sitter before and have loved them and the service but I believe Kay to be the best! Here knowledge and love of dogs put me at ease!”

“Jordan was great!! He was patient with our neurotic dog and made sure she had a safe space when she was ready to interact. He followed all the petcare procedures for the dog, cat, and chickens. He watered the plants and left the house clean! We loved the pictures he sent us of the critters and the ongoing communication while we were gone. Definitely recommend him and would use him again!”

“We’ve been using Ben for a year now and he’s definitely the best dog sitter we’ve ever had! We just left for 2 weeks and even our neighbors commented on how great he is with our dog Tío and he always treats our apartment well!!”

About: I have a deep love for animals and a strong sense of responsibility when it comes to caring for both pets and homes. My background in farming, permaculture, and sustainable living has given me years of hands-on experience working closely with animals of all kinds—dogs, cats, chickens, goats, alpaca and more. I understand the importance of attentive, compassionate care and the peace of mind that comes with knowing your animals and home are in good hands. I’m also a fisheries biologist with NOAA, where I’ve worked on protecting and understanding wildlife in marine ecosystems. That scientific background, combined with my grounded lifestyle and respect for nature, makes me a calm, reliable presence in any environment. I enjoy house sitting because it allows me to support others while spending time in peaceful, nurturing spaces—caring for animals, tending to gardens, and making sure everything runs smoothly while you're away. It's meaningful work that aligns with my values of stewardship, trust, and living in harmony with animals and the land. I'm an online student so am available to be at home most of the day with your animals. I pet sit often in the Grass Valley/ Nevada City area. I take dogs on daily walks, give them plenty of treats and pets, play fetch, make sure they always have water, and am happy to adapt to their routine.
About: I have been an animal lover my entire life. I am 52 years old and began walking my neighbors' dogs and housesitting for friends. When I lost my soulmate Layla after 14 years, I found a big void in my life. Being around animal energy is so fulfilling for me. This is when I decided to offer my love to others fur babies. I feel an immediate connection when meeting my new friends, I look forward to meeting your loved ones! I recently moved to Lake Wildwood from Martinez where I had built up quite a clientele. I work remotely which gives me ample flexibility for play time, potty breaks, cuddles and exercise. I love having company when working. I am told I am a wonderful houseguest as I have so much respect and honor the responsibilities of being a guest in your home. I will leave your home exactly as you left it. I work in the Fitness Industry so your pup is in good hands whether they need a short stroll or a long hike!

About: I've been around pets my whole life. When I was little, we had a mini labradoodle named Roxy and a cat named Snickers. I remember watching Cesar Millan and training Roxy to sit and to heel while walking. As I got older, we got more cats that ended up having kittens, and at one point we had 12 cats! Now, when I'm home from college, I help take care of two golden retrievers and a poodle that we have, as well as cats and chickens. I have a big heart for animals. I enjoy petting them, playing fetch with them, making sure they sleep well at night and feel loved. It would be an honor to meet you and take care of your pets! For the summer I'm currently studying for the MCAT which I take end of August. Because of that, my schedule is pretty free, and I don't have any job or school responsibilities to pull me away from giving pets the best care possible. I'm available to hang out with your pets while I'm studying, and make sure they have everything they need. Our poodle at home is getting old and has Cushing's disease, which makes her bones quite fragile. As such, I would prefer to watch your pets at your house. I'm happy to walk or play fetch with dogs, pet your animals, feed them and make sure they have water, and whatever else you do to keep them happy.

“When my husband said on Christmas day: “let’s go on a nine day vacation in four days,” my initial reaction was “YAY!” Then my “YAY” quickly turned into an “Oh NO! What about Belle!?!?” That’s when I turned to Rover.com. I found Virginia here, fully background checked, and I sent her a quick message. Her response time was super fast, and she was willing to come over to meet us right away. We met, and as her profile describes, she’s incredibly nice! She took great care of Belle while we were away and was very respectful of our home. She also sent updates and pics on a regular basis. I think Virginia took better care of Belle than I do! I plan on hiring Virginia when we go out of town in the future! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to any dog mommy or daddy!”
About: Welcome! The headline is true- I am mostly just a strange creature pretending to be human, which I've found animals tend to appreciate. A bit about me as a human working with animals: In the past, I have worked at the Humane Society in Nevada and have worked at two different veterinary offices. I am trained in animal restraint, medication administration, basic first aid skills, and have recently begun working on CPR training. I am equipped to handle all ages and all manners, though I'll admit that I do have a soft spot for senior dogs (I'm a big softie for all animals, so take that as you will). I have dog sat and walked countless times independently for years. I currently have a 15lb mixed-breed dog named Timber, who doesn't need to join on my adventures if you or your pet aren't comfortable with it. I'm currently not equipped to care for your critter in my home, but hopefully that will change in the near future! Please consider me when looking for someone to take care of your four-legged children (well ... however many legs your pets have, I won't judge). I will soon have a lot of availability on weekdays between 9am - 4pm, but am absolutely open to discuss different times you may need. I'm flexible and adaptable and happy to work with you to fit you & your pet's needs. Since it would be at your place, I'm happy to learn your routine to keep your fur-baby comfortable. Walks, adventures, crating, playing in your fenced yard... Whatever your preference. I don't judge- what works for you all works for me!
“Hannah was wonderful! She responded quickly and made time to take care of my pup on short notice. She was thorough in her questions and preparation for taking care of him. I felt fully confident letting her take care of my pup and he seemed totally happy when I arrived home. I highly recommend!”

“I couldn’t have asked for a better sitter for my dogs, Cali and Louie, on Valentine’s night! Jillian was incredibly reliable, communicative, and caring from start to finish. She made sure my pups were comfortable, well cared for, and given plenty of attention. It’s clear she truly loves animals and goes above and beyond to make them feel at home. I felt completely at ease knowing they were in such good hands. If you’re looking for a trustworthy, responsible, and loving pet sitter, I highly recommend booking with Jillian!!”

“Misty was amazing! She exceeded our expectations. I knew our fur babies were being loved and cared for by all the communication and pics that she sent. I came home to my house even cleaner than I left it ? I would definitely recommend.”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of August 2026, there are 991 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Timbuctoo. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Timbuctoo walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Timbuctoo maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Timbuctoo choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
