10+ Years of Caring Experience

Pet care experience

** DISCOUNT FOR HEALTHCARE WORKERS AND BLACK PEOPLE** I'm a recent graduate working full time at a veterinary center, looking to care for cats and dogs of all sizes, energy levels, and behaviors. Given that I am working full time (with a variable schedule), I am not looking to book daily/weekly repeating walks, but more of as needed or vacation stays. My experience includes training and caring for my family's shelter pup, Domino, for five years, house sitting pets (and children) for friends and family, dog walking all over Manhattan, and volunteering at an animal shelter downtown. Currently, I am working at Worth Street Veterinary Center, where I have worked for 2 years and counting. My on-the-job training as a veterinary technician gives me tons of experience that many people do not have access to. This includes working with aggressive dogs, all sizes and breeds, mean cats, and new puppies and kittens. Additionally, I am adept at ear cleanings, face cleanings, medical baths or soaking, applying topical medications, and administering injectable medications. Cutting nails can be difficult by myself, but I can definitely give it a try if needed. I've taken care of young animals, senior animals, animals with disabilities, and animals with a variety of temperaments. I'm extremely good at communicating promptly and with detail. I've spent all my life with dogs, and know how to read their body language. Everything that could be an issue with a dog, Domino has- peeing in the house, barfing in the mornings, choking on food, picking up chicken bones from the street, barking at everything and anything, being shy at first contact, biting, whining, following commands, and more. And I know how to deal with it all.

Zelie was terrific. She took wonderful care of our dog Georgie while we were out of the country for a week, sent us regular updates and photos, and was very responsive to our messages throughout. Georgie is a sweet dog who can cause a lot of trouble when alone and bored, and Zelie was great about following all the instructions we left for Georgie’s care. Georgie managed to tear a hole in some couch cushions near the end of the trip… we were very happily surprised to find that Zelie had actually sewn them all up for us without being asked! She formed a clear bond with our dog and we will definitely be using her again.

Zelie is wonderful! She stayed at my apt with my 4 mo mini schnauzer and they had a great time! This was the first time I left Ruby so as you can imagine I was anxious but Zelie

Information Zelie A. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know the details surrounding the pet's behavior and needs, as well as any restrictions or medical concerns. I don't discriminate against breed- I love all dogs and cats, regardless of size, stereotypes, or age. If I had to pick, my favorite "breed" would be a mutt, with Pitbull and Chihuahua as close seconds.

A typical day

If I'm housesitting near a park, I would definitely take the dog there for walks and to play. I would play with them on a leash, always, unless the owner specifically mentions that their dog enjoys dog runs. At home, I will spend my time playing with the dog, working on training, and relaxing together. And of course, the dog will receive all my attention and love.
