Climber and Pet Lover for Life!

Pet care experience

A native Vermonter and product of a hyper active youth, I grew up in a pet filled household. While pursuing a philosophy degree in Washington D.C., I discovered a love for climbing and started watching friends' dogs and cats on the side. This became a great stress-relief and humanizing complement to my academic pursuits. When running around with dogs, or lounging around with cats, one tends to feel everything is better with the world! Upon graduating, I returned to New England for a few years where I worked as a professional climbing instructor and mountain guide. During this time, I began to Rover with a variety of pet-related jobs to include house-sitting, dog walking/running, and plenty of treat giving! Pet-care became a viable, fun addition to the guiding and I began seeing myself as a professional in that as well. I have just moved to LA in order to support my partner's career as well as finish my own climbing and guiding education. Taking care of people's pets has proven to be an enormous privilege and adventure in my life and I look forward to continuing it on the West Coast as well! Due to the nature of my work, my schedule varies a fair amount from time to time. There will be months where I am completely in the area, and others where I am away. I will strive to keep my calendar accurate, but please don't hesitate with any questions regarding current or future availability. My services are more flexible and varied than the below information would suggest too, so please contact me for further details or so we can make an arrangement! While I have learned to live from the mountains, it is my favorite four legged friends who have taught me to love. They showed me early on that when someone you care about comes through the door, greet them as if it was the happiest moment of your day. I am grateful for this teaching! I look forward to becoming best friends, with your best friend! Please don't ever hesitate with any questions and if you would rather meet before making a decision, I am more than happy to do so! Warmest regards, Zack

I cannot say enough about how happy our dog was with him! He gave her thoughtful exercise, cuddled her when she wanted, shared his bed with her, and hunted down special limited ingredient kibble. Whether it was just an afternoon walk and feed or a week watching our home, Zack took care of everything and things were always tidy and clean. Be at ease that no matter the comportment of your mutt or pure breed, Zack will treat it like the family that it is.

It is my pleasure to write a recommendation on Zack Sawyer for Rover.com. Zack has dog and house sat for me many times through the last few years while my husband and I have traveled. We have three dogs - Sally, a 9 year old lab mix rescue; Zoey, a 5 year old lab rescue, Bernie, a 3 year old St. Bernard. We have a very large yard where the dogs can roam freely, but need to be kept an eye on as not to let them go into the neighboring woods. There are also lots of rabbits, skunks and other animals I don't want the dogs to be chasing. So when they are outside, they need to be watched. Our dogs love Zack as he will play and run with them outside and cuddle with lots of attention inside. Zack is extremely responsible in following the dog's schedule of eating, letting out, etc. One dog takes several medications that Zack oversees. Zack is also very personable and takes the initiative to pick up the dog's medications if needed, groceries at the house and other tasks. He is a very good house sitter in that he leaves the home like he found it and is very conscientious of his privilege to be in the home. You will not find a more responsible, outgoing, caring person to care for your pets. As a dog owner whose world revolves around her pets, I highly recommend Zack Sawyer as a pet/house sitter.

Zack has earned my complete trust and respect for the care he has provided to my golden doodle over the past five years. He is a warm, kind, and compassionate young man--to both pets and the humans who love them. He is extremely responsible; when Zack commits to taking care of our dog I know he will be there, as planned. Lastly, but equally important to me is the fact that I trust Zack with a key to my home. When Zack housesits my dog for any length of time, I return to find things just as I left them--and usually cleaner, as well!

Information Zack S. would like to know about your pet

I extend my humanist values to animals as well! I love all breeds, sizes, and personalities the same. I prefer pets who are house trained, relatively healthy, and not too aggressive to new pet-sitters! I do not have experience providing any sort of medication (other than pills and vitamins with food), but am not opposed to learning.

A typical day

I believe that movement in any capacity is key to happiness and managing life's many stresses. Whether it is running like a dog, or stretching like a cat, I imagine your favorite four legged friend feels the same! Depending on the situation, we will search out the best parks, trails, or sidewalks to get a little movement in. I have brought dog's on hikes, trail/beach runs, and for ball throwing adventures! Cat's tend to be a little more particular, but even they can seldom resist a good belly rub or laser chasing game!
