Born in the Year of the Dog!

Pet care experience

I am originally from Yokohama, Japan. I live near Twinbrook Metro Station. My Dachshund went to heaven at the age of 17. I am a pet widow and a volunteer at Montgomery County Humane Society. The biggest dog I have ever walked is 170 lbs (77 kg) Great Pyrenees Neapolitan Mastiff mix. Happy to share my LinkedIn page and show you the breeds I walked including 1 Pitbull and 3 Pitbull mix. I walked 2 dogs at one time... an active black lab and a strong Siberian Husky. Someday I would like to walk 3 or more dogs at the same time. For doggy day care and overnight pet boarding, I rather host one pet unless the pet parents have two pets. I won’t let socialization happen due to safety reasons (temperament/disposition, upbringing history, immunization status etc). Just to be safe. I am a duchshund widow and do not have any pets in my home. Here are my Rover experiences. 1st client: She printed parking validation for the apartment complex. She popped the door open in order to give me both a building access key and a room key for her unit. I appreciate she was prepared and reducing the leashing office routine. I gave her dog a ride to welcome her home. She helped me clean my car and indroduced a protective blanket for car backsheet. Thank you so much. 2nd client: She and her dog lives in a townhouse, she showed me the better access to the entrance and parking. She visited overseas but made sure her text works. She also gave me her family and neighbor’s number becausd it was 3.5 weeks overnight sitting. Communication was smooth both herself and her family. No issues with stock of dry food, wet food and treat. I checked the snail mail box and took trash out. I didn’t mind at all. They were very supportive. One weekend, she gave me a break which means that I could sleep in my own house for 2 nights. I greatly appreciate that. She could have asked for refund but she didn’t. One week later, her flight got delayed and I offer to stay one night longer. She still could have asked for one night refund but she didn’t...I appreciate her support and resources for my 3.5 weeks stay. 3rd client (bad experience): It was drop-in visit 6 times for a lady in a high rise apartment. I had the feeling that she may not have experience using dog walking services. I have visited 10 or 11 apartment complexes for dog walking and I doubt she knew how the apartment worked in terms of the hours and how the key handled at the leashing office. She does NOT respect Rover provider’s time. I felt awkward when I was asked a long list of things within “drop-in visit”. I am ok with a sick dog or a dog with special needs but things got too much after I looked everywhere for his winter jacket in case it’s cold. But next moment, she freaked out because the room temperature was too hot. She told me to adjust. Unfortunately I couldn’t figure out. I received angry text messages. I asked for FaceTime, but she couldn’t answer. I went to the leashing office and returned to her unit with a maintenance person only to found out that dog walkers could not place orders on behalf of residents. I came home downtrodden. I saw FaceTime request from the owner. At that point, I really wanted to quit knowing this person doesn’t respect Rover provider. I spend 2 hours for “drop-in visit” I called Rover support and they said it’s up to me to keep or drop. I asked the owner if she could find another provider. My only hope is that she would realize that she was abusing me. Next day she said she could not find anyone on Rover. I told her that I would suck up and continue. So I showed up at the leashing office and found another maintenance person. I told about the temperature adjustment and this time the building services helped me out! I told the dog owner about it but she didn’t sound thankful. When I was about to go home, the leashing office told me that Sunday morning was closed (I tell the receptionist what day/time I will come back). The residents can let the guests into the building but no one will be here to unlock the individual unit. I called the owner and let her know about Sunday morning. She blatantly wanted to cancel because she would ask her brother while the leashing office was still open. She asked about refund, so I said Rover Help Center will assist the refund. I found out the office hour for her and she made a decision to cancel. I thought I was helpful. Also I was relieved because I no longer have to be at her beck and call anymore. Afterwards, I received an unjust review from her. Rover rating system is only one-sided and my voice won’t appear on public review like other platforms like Airbnb. I regret that I took that request the first place. I did see red flags at the meet & greet (last minute request, she didn’t talk about herself, didn’t tell me where she is going/family gathering, business trip etc. unlike other clients who engaged conversation with me), but I wanted to gain more experience so I took this request. Probably she chose me because I am quiet...easy to take advantage of. I thought pet owners were nice people...unfortunately I was wrong. End of story... Thank you for reading my page. I believe I will encounter good people again. Looking forward to having a meet & greet with you and your pets. Yukiko

She was good until about 3 days before her scheduled walks for my dog was about to end. I was out of town and she texted me late at night saying that she would like to NOT walk my dog anymore. I was stressed in thinking about how and who will walk my dog. She said that she was stressed with the arrangements of accessing my building, so she wanted to quit before our agreed dates. I think this was pretty unreasonable and so unprofessional of her.

We are delighted to have chosen Yukiko. She was the best dog sitter for our Louis. First of all, Yukiko treated our dog as if it was her own. We were away for a longer period of time; and during her stay at our house we were in constant communication. Louis really liked Yukiko and they created a special bond between each other. She is very reliable, trusting and a loving person. Yes, We definitely would choose Yokiko again. We are very fortunate.

Yukiko is Amazing!! Finding someone that will care about your puppy just as much as you do is not easy, and I was lucky enough to find Yukiko!! I was out of town for 4 days and Yukiko made this trip worry free. She texted me pictures and kept me updated about my dog walks and general things. She took her out every 3-4 hours and made sure I will get a picture of almost every trip. Yukiko is reliable caring and very organized. I definitely recommend her to anyone and I will use her services again!!
